Joan Holliday Obituary
Joan Holliday passed away December 20, 2020 in Helena, MT.
Joan was born September 27, 1936 in Middletown, OH to Herbert and May Frazier. She grew up in Middletown, then graduated with a degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, OH. It was there that she met Dave Holliday. Joan and Dave were married June 13, 1958 and had 2 children, Dawn and Drew.
Dave’s career in broadcasting brought the couple to Montana in 1961, where they lived in Billings and then in Helena. Joan taught one year at Carroll College, then began teaching English, speech and word clues at Capitol High School. Joan retired from teaching in 1977, and she moved to Missouri for a couple years with her second husband Jon Lokowich. Joan and Jon divorced and after living in Salem OR for a few years, she returned to Helena and began a long career as the continuity director at Cherry Creek Radio.
Joan retired from Cherry Creek Radio in 2015 at the age of 78. She always said she would work until she was 80, but she didn’t quite accomplish that due to health concerns. She could also be frequently heard correcting the grammar in television commercials, outdoor advertising and any other media she came across or advising anyone who asked on spelling. She was a strong willed, independent and very fashionable woman and we will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and May Frazier and her brother David Frazier.
Joan is survived by her children, Drew Holliday (Vicki) and Dawn McBride (Dale), her sister-in-law Laura Frazier of Townsend, her grandchildren Elise Holliday, Isaac Holliday (Jessica) and Justin DeTienne, her step-grandchildren Kristi DeTienne (Alex), Becci DeTienne (Dennis), Kyla Ford (Chris), Marci Myles (Justin) LuAne Covington (Jimmy) and Lynae Place (Regen), Morgan Eatinger and Ki-Ai McBride, her nieces Jessica, Hannah and Sarah Frazier and 22 great-grandchildren.

Reading of the death of Joan Holliday is remembering the woman who was the face of KBLL…forever!! The times we spent chatting during visits to the radio station were many, many, many…she was her own ‘force’! What a remarkable woman who kept things in order & wasn’t very favorable of the idea of ‘retirement’!! She was a pro in writing advertising script, & she was definitely the ‘woman in the know’ for radio needs. A salute to Joan, & our sympathies to her family from Gary & Joy Novota.

Joan was always dressed beautifully..I miss that “classy lady” across the street.Every Saturday morning her best friend would pick her up and they would go to garage sales and have lunch..she would come back with all kinds of sacks and a great big smile. On Sunday mornings, Dawn and Dale would pick her up for breakfast and maybe church.
Dawn and her husband Dale have done a beautiful job in caring for your mom..what a great testimony to the love you all shared.
Your friends across the street. Mary Kay & George Bennett

Thinking about Joan today, so went looking for her. Sorry to find I was too late to have an opportunity to laugh about the past with her. I learned so much from her about grammar, garage sales, parenting, how to make bologna salad, the smell of Pond’s cold cream, how to use a curling iron and many other things. So talented, she was rapping in the early 80’s at KTVG/KTVH before rap became popular in Helena. Condolences to Dawn, Drew and their families. goodbye for now my friend.
