JOHN (Jack) JOSEPH DUNN went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 25, 2021 at Honor Health John C. Lincoln Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to graduating from Helena High School, he went to work for the NP Railway as Yard Clerk and after release from the Navy returned to Helena as Train Desk Clerk. In February 1957 he met his first wife, Darlene Mazie Dalrymple and they were married on August 3, 1957. In October of that year, he went to work for Mountain Bell as an apprentice C.O.E. Installer. Darlene left this world in April 1988 to be with her Lord and Savior.

In 1989 he met Billeta (Billie) Hogemark and they were married at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church on September 22, 1990. This union gave Jack five additional daughters and their families, Judy (Gene) Sondeno, Linda (Mel) Roe, Sandra (Doug) Morgan, Billeta (Earl) Mainwaring and Bobbie (Roger) Boss. Over the years Jack and Billie spent their winters in Phoenix, Arizona and summers in Montana as well as enjoying traveling.

Jack was active throughout his life in Fraternal organizations serving as Worshipful Master of Helena Lodge No. 3, A.F. & A.M, of which he was a 64-year member, including being a 40-year member of the Helena Scottish Rite and Algeria Shrine Temple. He was also active in Helena Lodge No. 193, B.P.O.E. serving as Exalted Ruler twice and as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the Southern District of Montana. Jack additionally was a member of Miriam Chapter Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Patron with Billie and Worthy Matron. Jack also enjoyed a 13-year membership in the Helena Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #639.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Darlene, and brothers Edward and Howard. He is survived by his daughters and stepdaughters, 21 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren as well as his brother Gary (Judy Rigler) Dunn. He also has numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

I knew Jack and Billie from the Moose. I hadn’t seen him for a few years but I thought out the two of them often. Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a very kind, dignified gentleman. My condolences to Billie and the rest of his family.

Billie, Tracie, and Terrie, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Jack was the last of the original “Logan Street Gang” dads and I have so many fond memories of him, most of all his huge bear hugs every time I saw him right up until the last time I saw him in Helena in 2018. His memory will always bring a smile to my heart. God Bless

I will miss my grandfather so much. I didn’t get to see him as much as I would have liked. He always took us on a educational adventure. We went to the zoo, natural bridge caverns, ripleys believe it or not, the wax museum, other museums, canada and others I was too young to remember. Im so glad he was able to meet my husband Chris cruson and his great grandson skyler and great granddaughter Allinecia before he left. I feel so numb without you grandpa. I will miss you so much.

Jack’s first wife, Darlene Dalrymple, was my fourth-grade teacher at Bryant School in the Sixth Ward. I remember Jack stopping after school to see Miss Dalrymple. We kids didn’t like him taking our teacher away from us, because she was so very good to each one of us. I loved her. Jack must have been a wonderful man, I’ve often thought, if Miss Dalrymple would partner up with him for life.
My heartfelt condolences to Jack and Darlene’s children and his new family, too, of course.

My grandfather was one of the greatest people to be a part of this Earth. He taught me that your word and your name is sometimes all you have to rely on. I’ll always remember his smile and smell. I miss his hugs and kisses. He is my hero, and will remain as such. I’ll always remember his words “bye for now”.
    I Love you Pepa

My dad was always Daddio to me. I don’t remember what I got that nickname from. I just know I made a lot of wrong moves in my life but he and Billie always tried to be supportive even if it was against their beliefs. I took a hard lesson to get me on the right track

My grandfather was a very kind and fun person, I don’t have good memory from when I was young but I know I always enjoyed coming over. He would take us on trips sometimes even. I always remember when I was introduced to the Payday bar by him, we would always share them together. I love you grandpa, thank you for everything.
