John Mitchell “Jack” Doyle age 83, of Helena, formerly of Lincoln, died in Helena Friday evening, June 1, 2012.
Jack was born in Chico, California August 9, 1928 to John L. and Carmelita (Mitchell) Doyle. Jack received his education in California. Following his graduation from high school, Jack entered the United States Air Force serving for 20 years retiring in 1966 as a Tech Sergeant. Jack and Annette were married December 22, 1973 and lived in California for 20 years where Jack worked in the Civil Service as a department supervisor at Balboa Naval Hospital. They moved to beautiful Lincoln, Montana in 1993 where they lived for 13 years. They moved to Helena in 2006 to be closer to the Veterans Medical Center at Ft. Harrison for Jack’s continued health care.
Jack loved to hunt, fish and camp. He taught his kids to respect the wild and taught them to hunt, fish and then properly care for their harvest. While living in Lincoln, Jack enjoyed traveling on his four-wheeler to Lambkins Bar to get a cup of coffee for Annette. Jack and Annette enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, cruises on Mexican waters, their cruise to Alaska, traveling to Carlow, Ireland, Czechoslovakia, and to Germany to see the Passion Play.
Annette and Jack were snowbirds for many years. He was a member of the Elks and the American Legion in Lincoln, where he served as commander for two years. He was also a member of the VFW.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Annette of Helena; children, Sherie (Mike) Steele of Helena, Jacque (Russ) Shively of Mendocino, CA, Debbie Wells of Great Falls, Pamela Oleson of Great Falls, Greg (Janice) Doyle of Lompoc, CA, and Karen Johnson of Great Falls; a sibling, Patricia Marie Reynolds of Biloxi, MS; daughter-in-law, Diane (Charles) Marlen; 13 grandchildren, Christy (Shawn) Holden, Shawn (Noel) Jacobs, Annika LaFournaise, Jane (Mike) Leinwand, Jennifer Doyle, Weston and Mitchell Shively, Chad Taylor, Stephanie Wells, Laura (Ron) Myers, Ashley Doyle, and Jesse and Justine Johnson; step-grandson, Kelly (Jenna) Stevens; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin; Mother and Father; sister, Mary Virginia Roach; and the children’s mother, Beatrice Whittaker.
Viewing and Family Receiving Friends will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 7th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 8th at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery, Fort Harrison with a luncheon reception to immediately follow the burial at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. I remember camping when I was a kid with my parents, my aunt Bea & Uncle John & cousins. What fun we had fishing & camping at Brown’s Lake, Jumping Creek campground & Patosi Hot Springs! Uncle John was a really nice guy & enjoyed being with family! I miss those times!
