John Patrick Brophy, age 64, passed away June 15, 2015 at his East Helena home in Montana.
Pat (what he was referred to by family and close friends) was born June 17, 1950 in Spokane, Washington to Martha Joan (Brophy) Cowger. He spent a large portion of his childhood growing up in Marysville, Montana with his grandparents William John Brophy and Theresa Margaret Brophy. He was a graduate of Helena High and had attended his 45th class reunion last summer.
As a young man, Pat joined the United States Army. He served over twenty years including three tours in Vietnam, He began his military career at Fort Lewis, Washington, spent time at Fort Carson, Colorado traveled throughout the world and retired as an instructor at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
After serving in our military, Pat went through training to become a long haul truck driver. He drove for JB Hunt, Werner Enterprises and retired from Jim Palmer Trucking in 2012, due to illness.
Throughout his driving career he received awards including “Million Miles” and several safe driver awards. He enjoyed his time on the road and drove as long as his health would allow.
Pat was never married, nor had children. He is survived by his siblings, Steven Cowger, Tamara Cowger and Kevin (Debbie) Cowger; nieces and nephews, Tresa and Kevin Johnson, Anthony Barlow, Jamie Cowger, and Logan Cowger, along with several cousins that he cared for just as deeply.
Because of two major careers that kept Pat on the move, he really enjoyed gatherings of family and friends. He consistently attended the Marysville Pioneer Picnic, reunions when possible and always gathered with family during the holidays. Pat also enjoyed taking pictures to capture these family moments that he cherished. He was always attached to a camera and could explain every detail of photos that he kept in albums.
Pat also had an exclusive music collection, a passion for trains, loved sweets and always watched reruns of law and order.
