In Memory Of

Jordan Haynes, age 90, of Helena

August 27, 1931 – January 28, 2022

Family services by invitation will be held.

Jordan D. Haynes of Helena passed away peacefully on January 28, 2022, after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for the past several years. His wife Carlee cared for him until his last moments and extends her sincere appreciation to the staff of Fort Harrison VA Hospital for their wonderful support during the previous week.

Jordan was born in Louisville, KY on August 27,1931, the third son of Edna and Eugene Haynes. In 1943, Jordan moved to Three Forks, Montana and spent many happy days hunting and fishing.  He graduated from high school in 1950 and married classmate Dianne Roe in 1951. Together they had three children Debra, Steve, and Lana.

Jordan joined the Navy later in 1951 during the Korean War. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Bairoko, which was the command ship of the hydrogen bomb testing that took place at the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. After he was discharged, Jordan attended Montana State University for two years. He then moved his family to Port Arthur, Texas and continued his education at Lamar University while working for the US Postal Service. In 1966, Jordan and his family returned to his beloved Montana where he continued his career with USPS in Helena until retiring in 1987. In 1990, Jordan became widowed.

Jordan married Carlee Budke in 1991. Together, they enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Europe and visits to see their children and grandchildren. Even into his 80’s, Jordan could be found racing the kids down the waterslides at the Great Wolf Lodge, riding rollercoasters at Disneyland, and bicycling the Hiawatha Trail. He amazed them all by trying indoor skydiving in his 84th year!

In Helena, Jordan and Carlee built a home which served as a gathering place for dear friends and family. Many celebrations were enjoyed at their dining table and on their back deck overlooking the spacious and beautifully manicured yard. Jordan was very proud of his grand yard. Even as his illness progressed, he took joy in being outside, tending to stray pinecones and gathering apples for pies and applesauce they made each year.

Jordan was one the most kind and gentle spirits one would ever meet. No matter what hardship came his way, and there were many, he remained optimistic, joyful, and easy-going. Jordan was always ready to lend a hand – and an ear – and to share his chocolate stash with friends. He and Carlee were inseparable and could be seen walking hand-in-hand almost everywhere they went.

Jordan is preceded in death by his parents Edna and Eugene Haynes, brothers Charles and Tom Haynes, his late wife Dianne Haynes, and grandson Levi Brown.

Jordan’s earthly presence will be dearly missed by his extensive family:

Loving wife and best friend for the past 31 years, Carlee Haynes

Daughter Debra Brown (Ray Rogers) and granddaughter Jessica Anderson (Luke), grandsons Benjamin Brown and Levi Brown (deceased), great granddaughters Leilani Brown and Kalea Perez (Daniel), great grandsons Jarael Anderson, Caeden Anderson and Israel Anderson, great-great granddaughter Aleya Perez, and great-great grandson Roman Perez

Son Steve Haynes (Maris Cundith) and granddaughter Ana Haynes

Daughter Lana Haynes, granddaughters Jenna Haynes and Tasa Burchard (Trance), and great grandchildren Talon and Tyleigh Burchard

Children by marriage: Shawn Budke (Pam), Kim Budke Dassler (David), Amy Budke (Todd Myse) and grandchildren – Hailey Budke McCleary (Corey) and great grandson Bridger, Brock Budke (Savannah), Leah Dassler, Kellyn Dassler, and Scott Dassler.

Private family services will be held by invitation.

In addition to the staff at St. Peter’s Health and the staff at Ft. Harrison VA Hospital, Jordan’s family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the staffs of Helena Angel Care and Touchmark Senior Living and to the many friends who provided love and support through this difficult transition.

Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to Fort Harrison VA Medical Center, VA Voluntary Services, 3687 Veterans Drive, Administration Bldg 141, Fort Harrison, MT 59636 or Helena Food Share at www.helenafoodshare.org  or PO Box 943, Helena MT 59624.

On behalf of the Stump family from the old Rodney St. and 12th Ave. neighborhood, I offer my condolences to JD’s family. Oh, how many years Lana and I ran around their house laughing and playing. JD was always kind and patient, even when he drove us around in the Barracuda – I think that was the car. It was great to see him and Carlee around town, he was always eager to catch up on our family. His smile was so genuine. May he rest in peace and may the perpetual light shine upon him.

Carlee and family, I was so sorry to read of J.D.’s (as my Dad John McKinnon called him) passing. I knew J.D. through my Dad’s working so many years with him at the Post Office. My Dad, Johnny, told me the best stories about J.D. and his kindness, considerate outlook, easygoing manner, sense of humor and so much more. I would often run into you guys out walking or shopping, or at sales or shows around town-you two were everywhere and ALWAYS went out of your way to stop and have a chat and a few laughs. You two always looked so happy and loving and kind to each other. J.D. never failed to recognize me and share stories about my Dad…which made me very happy! He was a wonderful man and brought light and laughter to so many. He will be missed. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was saddened this morning to see Jorden’s picture in the obituarys. I got to know Jordan when he was working at the post office. We would always exchange a few friendly sentences. After he retired, I saw him often down town with Carlee. Again, we would always greet each other and often catch up briefly on our lives. I will miss his sweet friendly presence in my life.

I know Carlee and Amy will miss him so much more and my heart goes out to you and his other close family and friends. May his bright spirit continue to infuse our world with the kindness he personified.

    Dear Carlee,
You and Jordan were the epitome of love as I saw you out and about shopping for the grandchildren. You always remembered to ask about my girls from Pete’s Place days. The smiles and love you shared was so evident and the kindness you shared flowed over to everyone you came in contact with. I know your memories will bring you peace. My thoughts and prayers from my family to yours.
