On the afternoon of May 18, 2014, Jason passed away in the arms of his family at St. Peters Hospital, Helena MT after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Jason was 50 years old.
Jason was born to Wanda and Joe Enger in Great Falls, MT on January 14, 1964. Always a smart and precocious little boy he was loved by everyone in the Sun River community. Wherever Joe went his little buddy went too. They were constant companions. The family moved to Cascade, MT to the Hodson Ranch where Jason learned the cowboy way from some of the very best. An incredible and fearless horseman, his exploits are too many to contain in 300 words so we will just pass on Jason’s words of wisdom:
If you need help with something, just say “Hey, you got 15 minutes? It will only take 15 minutes!” It usually takes at least an hour, there is going to be life threatening behaviors involved and in the end it will be rigged up with random parts and “good to go”.
Never hit a girl.
Never lie, cheat or steal unless the bastard did it to you first.
Never, ever, ever give up.
You make your own tracks.
Jason’s greatest role was that of Uncle. Everyone knows him as “Uncle” because there is no other in the world. Uncle taught them to shoot, drive, work hard, play practical jokes and generally torture their mothers. He will be missed terribly by these children. Words cannot express their loss but we know he lives on in their attitudes toward life.
Jason is survived by his loving parents Joe and Wanda Enger, his sisters Angie Enger and Jodi Windecker, his nieces Austin Roberts, Josephine
Benedict, Ellery Windecker, and nephews Jacob Roberts, Zach Lee, Tommy Benedict, Joshua Lee and brothers by blood, sweat and tears, Denny and Lenny Creech.

Joe, Wanda and Family,
If a person is lucky, they have the fortune of knowing someone like Jason. Though time has marched on and paths have lead in different directions my life is better for having been able to call Jason a friend. I remember him fondly. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
Lannie and Kathy Deserly says
To the Enger family,
We are so incredibly sad to just learn the news of Jason’s passing. We have known him for so many years since moving to Montana. Jason was always someone we were happy to run inton (usually at the Grubstake back in the day!) He was such a teaser and all around good guy. My favorite memory of Jason was the time he plowed out my driveway when my little VW beetle couldn’t get thru the snow. Lannie was out of town so I called Jason up to rescue me – which he did! We can’t tell you how sorry we are and how much that wonderful guy will be missed.
Ben and Vivian DeLeo says
Dear Joe, Wanda, Angie, Jody and all the kids—-We are sorry for your loss. Although I didn’t know Jason well, everyone I talked to told me what a great guy he was— Always full of vinegar and probably something else. Jody has told me how much she loved him just I am sure you all did. I am just sorry and I am thinking of you.
Howard & Sandi Gipe says
Joe and Wanda. We didnt know your son, but knowing you two, we know he was a great man. So sorry for your loss.
Stacie Enger-Smith says
Thoughts and prayers to the “MT Engers” whom I have always admired from the Dakota’s. I will always remember my cousin Jason as a true Roughneck Cowboy and have no doubt he has already transitioned to head wild bronco breaker up in heaven. I also wish to add just how much my father adored him. Dad was very proud of ALL his nieces and nephews yet Jason was special, first nephew? Perhaps, but these two men had an amazing bond. Gives me comfort knowing they are likely together. xo Stacie Enger-Smith and Family
Tina Beckley Price says
Thinking of you and good memories flood my mind. Simple times and family friends; Mischief, get to gathers, and the outdoors, Your family, the stories of the past, and the antics of Jason, and his accomplices……sometimes my brother! Joe and Wanda, Angie, Jody and Families; “The road has distanced us far apart, but you remain in the folds of my heart…….always.” Peace be with you, and may your memories of Jason, his beautiful smile and that special twinkle, bring you comfort.
Jamie Gunson says
I have just come across this and realize it was more than a year ago. I worked with Jason and for Joe for a short time in the 1980’s at the Hodson Ranch when I was travelling far from home. It was an experience I always remember and have fond memories of the Engers. My heart goes out to you all. Some of us get a long innings and some don’t. Its random and only god knows why. Best wishes and thoughts. Jamie Gunson, New Zealand
