It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Julie Doris O’Neill at the age 45. She fought a very brave fight against lung cancer for 6 months, but it finally caught up to her on Friday June 12th.
Julie was adopted into the O’Neill family at the age of one and raised in Helena. With blonde hair, blue eyes and a bubbly personality Julie brought a new energy and a whole lot of laughs to a family with three older boys. Julie grew up in Helena where she liked to swim, ride bikes, attend Y-Camp, and play with her friends on the west side of Helena. She also learned to sew, knit, cook and played in the Capital HS band. As a child, she also loved travelling to the family’s ranch in South Dakota where she learned to ride horses and care for animals. Her bubbly personality made her cowboy uncles laugh.
After high school, she moved to Oregon where she raised two boys – Matthew Neupauer and Timothy Helms — though Tim was actually born in Helena. Later, Julie moved back to Helena with her sons where they attended local schools. Julie worked for many years as a seamstress at Helena Industries. Julie really enjoyed sewing for a full time job and she continued to knit clothing in her spare time. But by far, her greatest passion and delight was raising and enjoying time with her two sons, who she loved profoundly.
Julie’s parents, Francis and Louise O’Neill, passed away before her. She is survived by: her two sons, Tim Helms and Matt Neupauer, and Matt’s wife Sireena; her three brothers: John Herrin, Dean O’Neill and Mark O’Neill; and her loving aunt, Doris Gylseth.
A service celebrating Julie’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home. Graveside services will be at Forestvale Cemetery after the reception. As a former neighbor and babysitter to the O’Neill’s, I send my sincere condolences to Julie’s family. She was a beautiful baby girl who joined a wonderful family of three brothers; John, Dean, and Mark, and was a joy to be with. Although the years have gone by, I will always treasure the memory of her amazing smile and happy personality! Julie will always hold a special place in our heart.
