June M. Gemberling, 86, passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena MT on February 25, 2014. June was born on the farm at Bonetrail, ND on June 21, 1927 to Casper J. and Minnie (Vinger) Manger.
After graduating from Williston High School in 1945, June married Joseph J. Kueffler and they relocated to Great Falls, MT where they raised their 5 children. They later divorced in 1972 and in 1977 she married Paul Gemberling and later divorced in 2009.
June worked several jobs in Great Falls, including the credit department at Sears and the business office at Montana Deaconess Hospital. Her most important job though, was being a mother, and she was an excellent mother who always loved her children and put their needs ahead of her own. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, painting landscapes, and was the author of Midwest Midwife, a book about her mother.
June moved to Helena in 2010 as her health declined, to be closer to her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, Helen Bjerkhoel and Marie Sprenger, her daughter Pauline Kueffler, and granddaughter Tammy Guinnee.
June is survived by her brother, Carrol (Agnes) Manger of Grenora ND, her son, Douglas Kueffler of Missoula MT, her 3 daughters, Karen Kueffler of Helena MT, Kathy Hartman of Portland OR, Elaine Christensen of Vaughn MT, and their spouses. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
No services will be held at her request.

What a wonderful woman. I worked with June Bug, which I always called her. We shared an office at the Deaconess. She taught me a lot about caring and compassion. She was tough but so so soft at the same time. I feel honored to have had her in my life. We should all strive to be as good a person as she was

I am sorry to hear the loss of your mom. She was such a vibrant, talented woman and Ray and I enjoyed visiting her in the past. She reminded me of who my own mother might have been like as they both grew up in the Bonetrail area and attended shool together thru high school, (Vi Rustad Paulson dec 1965). I shared her published book with my aunt, Dee Lorenz, who contacted June regarding events written and who could guess the “actual people and places” involved and as your mom stated, “Dee knew more than my own sibblings”. June’s family I am a cousin of your mother. We never met but for a few years we kept in contact through e-mail and talked about family. I was 10 years younger than June and never knew that my mom had a brother named Casper. My parents never talked about stuff or family so I learned a lot from your mother. She sent me a signed copy of her book
Midwest Midwife and also a picture that she had painted that I have hanging on my living room wall. My mother’s name was Nellie Manger Brandt. I am so sorry for your loss. I really enjoyed e-mailing or talking to her on phone. She loved her dog Doc and I loved my dog Muffins. I lost my husband 2 years ago and we were married for 57 years. It’s been hard without him but I know he’s in a better place. Right now I live in Missouri but will be selling my house and moving to Fort Wayne Indiana to be near my daughter and family.
