It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful, charismatic, loving daughter Kennady Lynn Trettin, taken from us way too soon on Oct 9th 2024 in a tragic accident at the age of 15. She brought immeasurable joy and love into the lives of family and friends. Kennady was a generous, kind-hearted person that brought so much light into every room. She had a beautiful, genuine soul and will be greatly missed.
Kennady was born on April 1st 2009 to Patrick and Robyn Trettin, joining her older brother Teagan to complete their family. Kennady brought spark, sass, and love into their world from day one.
Kennady attended Montana City School from Kindergarten until eighth grade. She then attended Jefferson High School. She was involved in many sports including gymnastics, swimming, soccer, skiing, cross country, volleyball, and wrestling. Kennady’s most recent passion was learning to surf behind the family boat. She was a natural and spent countless hours all summer behind the boat, even night surfing! She loved to teach others how to surf and it was impressive to watch her patience and persistence to help them succeed. Kennady was generous and caring and always willing to help others, no matter what.
Kennady loved animals, especially her beloved cat Nacho and dog Cooper. She smothered and suffocated them with kisses and hugs at every opportunity. She had hoped to someday volunteer at the Lewis and Clark County Humane Society. She always enjoyed spending time visiting the animals there.
Kennady also had a passion for beauty & fashion. She dreamt of being an aesthetician one day. Kennady loved to look cute and had an impressive collection of makeup. She spent hours watching tutorials and would practice her new skills on anyone who would lend her their face, nails, toenails, eyebrows…maybe even a few piercings! Her Dad was one of her favorite subjects, loving to wax his nose and ear hair! She was so bold as to tell visitors to the house that they required a nose wax, encouraging them to “let her practice because she was going to need to be good at this one day!” She especially loved “Spa Days” with her Mom. Kennady went to the salon whenever possible, always ensuring her nails were highly fashionable!
Kennady loved decorating for the holidays, crafting, shopping, watching UFC, and spending time playing games with her family and friends. She was very competitive and somehow always won any game she played. Teagan maintains she must have cheated somehow…no one wins every time! Teagan and Kennady were very close and had a healthy sibling rivalry, but they were always each other’s biggest supporters. The funny girl she was, never missed an opportunity to play pranks on him!
Kennady loved to babysit. She adored kids and had such a warm and motherly way about her. She was the BEST babysitter to many.
The family loved to travel and spent many vacations at her favorite place, the beach. Her biggest wish was to travel to Paris one day.
Kennady was also a thrill seeker and looked forward to going to a theme park every summer with her grandparents and cousins. She and her mom planned to skydive for her 18th birthday.
Kennady was a remarkable human being with so much love and compassion to give. It was a blessing to know her and an honor to have been part of her life. Her character was admirable. Her purpose was to bring joy and happiness to those around her and she did that to the greatest of her abilities. Although her journey ended too soon, she lived a full life filled with purpose and meaning.
She leaves behind her parents, Patrick & Robyn Trettin of Clancy; brother, Teagan Trettin of Clancy; grandparents Jim & Vanessa Bolstad of Clancy and grandparents Larry & Pam Trettin of Montana City; Great Grandmother, Dorothy Farrell of Clancy; aunt Nikki (Landon) and cousins Aiden & Adalyn Jackson of Clancy; uncle Bo (Carlye) and cousins Liam & Finn Bolstad of Helena; uncle Chad Trettin of Sarasota, FL and cousins Sofia & Max; aunt Olya Trettin of Sarasota, FL; uncle Mike Trettin and cousins Kendall and Kaden of Helena; aunt Valarie (Clee) Lafond of Roy MT and cousin Brittany; and numerous great aunts/uncles/cousins. She was preceded in death by Great Grandmother Alice Bolstad- Anderson, Great Grandfather Ray Farrell, Great Grandmother Babe Trettin, and numerous others who passed before her birth.
A scholarship has been set up to honor Kennady and keep her legacy alive. The family requests in lieu of flowers please donate to the Kennady Trettin Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations can be made via Venmo @KennadyTrettinScholarshipFund or at any Valley Bank location in Helena, MT.
Please acknowledge this special thank you to those who were part of Kennady’s life. She was the most beautiful person inside and out. Your impact on her life will never be forgotten.

Robyn and Jim,
We are so, so sorry for the loss of Kennady. I will never forget the time that she came to Deer Lodge with us over the summer. It was a hot day. Kennady, Emma (Goodwin) and Jaden (Lyman) had my car speakers blaring their favorite songs all the way there and back! They giggled about cute girl things and I remember thinking about the days when I was their age, doing the same things with my friends. It made my heart feel warm.
While we were in Deer Lodge visiting my mother, the girls decided to go for a walk. They came back within 20 minutes or so… Kennady was broke out in huge hives! I freaked out but she was so calm, she simple said “Jenny, it’s ok… I’m just allergic to the sun.” Oh my goodness! Only the sun?! I was way more concerned than she was!
Emma feels lost without her, and there is a hole the size of Texas in our hearts over this.
We are praying for God’s peace and comfort for you and your family.
Shirley Gilbert says
My heart breaks for everyone of you. I can’t even imagine the nightmare you are going through!

Dear Robyn, Pat, and Teagan — You all have been in my heart and on my mind since the accident. Although I can’t begin to fathom the depth of pain you all have been experiencing and how much you miss your precious Kennady, I do have a sense of the incredible light she brought to you all and your world and how dark and empty this new reality must feel. May you continue to feel shrouded in gentle love, support and kindness as you take one breath and then another and put one foot forward and then another. Kennady’s light and love can never be extinguished as she and it will always be at the center of your family.
