“A Life Well Lived”
Kenneth James “Kenny” Glueckert, age 66, of Helena passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, August 30th, 2024, after a 4-year battle with brain cancer. In the last few weeks, he was cared for at his home by his daughters, Shelley, family and hospice.
Kenneth (Kenny) James Glueckert was born January 13, 1958, he was the second of five children born to Fred (Itz) and Marilyn Glueckert of Helena, MT.
Kenny loved the outdoors, riding his motorcycles, four-wheeling with friends, fishing with his dad, mushroom picking in the mountains, hunting, shooting guns, and camping. Kenny’s favorite times besides being outside included cooking, smoking great meals for family and friends and socializing after a long day of work with a cold beer at one of his favorite watering holes. Kenny was a music connoisseur and could often be found listening to music in his garage with a cigar after a long day. In his younger years Kenny would go dirt bike riding to clear his head and had a love for his time in the mountains on his bike. He was known for a few good dirt bike crash stories, that he would share willing as he had quite the daredevil spirit.
Kenny was a master electrician and worked with many electrical shops around Helena for over 30 years, starting his own electrical business S and K Electric in 2005, as an electrician Kenny flourished and met so many wonderful people throughout the community. His passion was to work on commercial accounts but was willing to help anyone that needed work done. Most of his commercial accounts he made long time friends with in the local area. He assisted with major remodels at the York Bar, Motherlode Sports Bar, Suds Hut, Big Bull Bar and Grill, the Helena Regional Airport, YMCA Flagpole and so many more.
Kenny and his younger brother Marty were very close, and sometimes up to no good. One good story of Kenny and Marty was when they were younger. The boys were really into westerns, and Marty thought he could be just like the guys on TV, a tough cowboy. So he had Kenny tie him upside down in a tree and leave him there. Marty said don’t worry he could get out of it so Kenny went inside to watch TV. Fred came home and had to untie Marty after who knows how long.
When he graduated from Capital High school Kenny was itching to get out, so he got on his dirt bike and off he went to York to camp and be in the outdoors. His mother told him to be home by dark. Well 3 months later he finally came home. He had picked up odd jobs digging ditches and cutting wood to survive and decided he didn’t need to come home anytime soon.
The Glueckert family often enjoyed catering a lot of events around town, with the main one being the Lineman’s Rodeo. They would BBQ steaks, do a pig roast or accommodate whatever the customer wanted. When Fred retired, Kenny took over mainly cooking pigs and would cater family reunions, weddings, and whatever people wanted. It was a lot of work but he enjoyed it greatly.
Kenny also enjoyed children and was delighted to welcome 2 daughters into his life, Anna and Megan. A favorite thing to do with his family and his children was to go mushroom hunting in the mountains. The whole Glueckert clan enjoyed this tradition and Kenny passed it on to his girls as well. Often times fresh Morrel mushrooms were a staple at most family dinners and reunions, and Kenny knew all the best spots to go look. Kenny loved the outdoors and loved Montana, often times it was a chore to get him to leave this Big Sky.
Kenny and Shelley did go on a couple of cruises and vacations through the years. They would spend thanksgiving in Las Vegas and then Kenny would go down to Yuma to visit his folks. He loved going to Mexico with his folks and spending precious time fishing with his father ‘Itz”.
When Marilyn passed away in 2007, Kenny and his father would go fishing around the Helena area on his father’s boat. Fred would call and say Kenny we need to go fishing tomorrow, and no matter what Kenny had scheduled for work that day, he would change it so they could go fishing. Kenny would make fried egg sandwiches for lunch for fishing, which he knew Fred just loved.
“Kenny G” was an often-fun nickname he was called by many. Kenny himself was also known for his many lil sayings and nicknames he gave to those who cared about. He was quick to help those in need and lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by many and at his request, his ashes will be spread up in York area, in his favorite mountain place.
We would like to thank Melinda, Chris and Karry from Headwaters Hospice, his cousin Ron Glueckert, his granddaughter Shelby and family friend Travis Harris for helping during his final weeks at home. We are grateful for the help, guidance, and support from everyone. Kenny wanted to spend his last days at home with family and friends and his wishes were carried out with love.
Kenny is survived by Shelley Glueckert, daughters Anna Glueckert, Megan Bimler (Erin). Stepdaughter Dana Freshly. Sisters Lynn Hanson, Bonnie Glueckert, Janet Lang (Cale). Grandchildren Jordan Wood, Shelby Davis, and Destin Cox. Stepgrandson Jaricho Jay. Nephews and nieces Bob Hanson, Susan Hanson, Cory Glueckert, Eric Glueckert, Amanda Villa (Brad), Thomas Pozsony, Lucas Lang and Garrett Lang.
He is preceded in death by parents, Fred and Marilyn Glueckert, and brother Martin Glueckert.
