We would like to invite you to celebrate the life of Kevin Edward Wyse, 64, who passed peacefully on October 21st, 2024 at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Kevin was born under the wide open skies in Conrad, Montana on November 4th, 1959 to Patrick and Mary Wyse. As the second child of four, Kevin cherished his sister and two brothers; Theresa, Tim, and Tom; showing it by his protective and combative nature. Kevin developed an early compassion for horses and riding, which he held onto all his life, doing what he loved, training and competing his cutting horses, until his final weeks.
Kevin met his wife, Tonya Sheffer, running around the streets of Conrad and after their separate journeys, they reconnected and soon married. Together they were blessed with three children, Sadie, Grace, and Daniel, whom they raised on the family ranch outside of Townsend, Montana. Close to nature and ever exploring, the family enjoyed many hobbies together including camping and fishing. After the passing of his wife, Kevin met Sandy and together they rediscovered their love of horses and horse training and went on to spend many weekends competing in cutting shows.
In his career, he focused on helping those who struggled with mental health. His work provided closure to many individuals and reunited several families. From children to veterans, many were impacted positively by his guidance.
Kevin will be fondly remembered by late night yodeling sessions by the campfire, long walks with a fly rod in hand, and sheep dog training across the west. His swing dancing talents will live through his children and loved ones, being passed down to future generations.
Kevin is proceeded in death by his wife, Tonya (Sheffer) Wyse, his doting mother Mary Vial, and his loving and pestering brother Tom Wyse. He is survived by his father Patrick Wyse (Doreen); his three children Sadie Wyse, Grace Younkin (Cache), and Daniel Wyse; his partner Sandy Gruninger; his siblings Theresa Kellogg and Tim Wyse (Lynda); and his grandchildren Kane and Hayes, who treasured and looked up to their “Papa Kev” more than anyone else in this world. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and loving friends. Kevin’s life will be celebrate on October 25th, 2024 in Townsend, Montana at the Deep Creek Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please give your horse an extra cookie this evening or consider a donation to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society in Helena, MT.
