On the evening of Father’s Day, June 20, 2021, Kim Culley Milburn took the hand of Jesus and passed from his earthly body in Helena, MT. He was surrounded completely by his immediate family and siblings. Kim was 77 years old.
Kim was born in Missoula, MT on April 14, 1944. He was the second child, second son, of Thomas J. Milburn and Mary Lou (Mason) Milburn.
First and foremost, Kim was a good and faithful servant to the Almighty God whom he loved dearly and was dearly loved by. Kim was born into a military family and followed in his dad’s footsteps into the Air Force and served for 25 years in civil engineering from 1969 – 1994. He held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was Commander over squadrons in Panama and Cheyenne, WY. Kim met and married his best friend Melanie Glover in 1980 at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Kim, Melanie, and their four daughters moved to Helena, MT after retiring from the military. He worked for the City of Helena as the Public Works Director and later worked for HKM Engineering. Throughout his life, Kim always pursued God’s calling for the Kingdom, the country, and men’s ministries.
Kim’s ministry in Helena was seen through groups such as the Men’s Prayer Group, Kiwanis, Montana Awakening Project, Promise Keepers, Last Chance Men of Integrity, Bible Study Fellowship, Billy Graham Association, State Prayer Breakfast, and the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast. Kim has taught the Bible to elementary, youth, and adult Sunday school classes. He had a love for the truth in the Scriptures and was impassioned to give the Good News to everyone.
Most importantly, Kim closely followed the example of Christ and loved his family tenderly. His wife and daughters were surrounded with complete love and understanding and were provided a wonderful example of God’s love through him. Kim’s joy and love in life was born from the hope he was given by his Heavenly Father.
Kim was preceded in Heaven by his father and mother. His legacy continues in his wife, Melanie, and his daughters and sons-in-law, Alyson and Joseph Russell, Rebekah and Jason Harris, Anna Milburn, and Laura and Colton Sherley. His brothers, sister and family, Laird and Barbara Milburn, Candace and Mark Van Ark, Craig and Susan Milburn, and Jeffery Milburn. He is also survived by his grandchildren Gabriel, Melanie, and Shelby Russell; Adella, Cole, Evelyn, and Lillian Harris; Obadiah and Noa Sherley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Helena Alliance Church for missions in the Philippines and Mexico.
The family would love to extend thanks to all those who prayed and kept the family in their thoughts through Kim’s journey home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, 1:00 pm at the Helena Alliance Church, 1400 Stuart St.

To the Milburn family, I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my condolences. In my freshman year of Air Force ROTC (Aug 1979 – 1980) LTC Milburn was my Commandant of Cadet at Memphis State University. I tried to follow his example as an officer throughout my career in the Air Force and as a Department of Defense civilian.

To the Milburn family. I knew Kim only fleetingly through some connections at the VA. It certainly didn’t take long to understand what a pleasant, generous and generally wonderful person he was. He will be missed by all who know him and all that didn’t have the honor of meeting him.

Kim’s kindness and love for people was always evident. He fought a long hard battle but always wanted to bring glory to God. His encouraging spirit made it hard to believe he was sick because he did his best to keep a smile on his face. Melanie, I love you and I am praying for you and your family. You and Kim mean so much to me. I know you miss him. We will see him again, in his new body that is completely free of pain and is completely whole.
Sending lots of love and hugs.
God bless you and your family,
Vicky Olson

Kim and I worked together at Memphis State Univ for several years teaching AFROTC. He was a good friend and we shared many good times together. Kim introduced me to Bellevue Baptist Church and Dr. Adrian Rogers. We were thrilled when Kim became engaged and we performed a military wedding for him in the gardens at Bellevue with Dr Rogers performing the ceremony. It was a beautiful day. I lost touch with Kim after I transferred out but always remember us working and getting together for social occasions. He was a good and kind man and will be missed by many. God bless the Milburn family and give you peace during this most difficult time.

I met Kim and Melanie @ CTCA in Tulsa. How we loved to talk about the goodness of God. It would always make my day when I knew ya’ll were coming to CTCA. God’s love and light showed thru you both. The few times Kim came for appointments and Melanie didn’t come it just was so wasn’t the same, because you both were ONE. The love you both have for God, each other, and your family is so precious. I am a better person because I got to know you both. God Bless you Melanie and your precious family
Will La Pointe says
Kim and his zest for living fully, his dry wit and humor and honest life will always be remembered fully! Looking forward to see him again! As he once said so poignantly, βTrust me!β
Bob Mullenix says
Kim was instrumental in expanding my Christian life. I remember the trips we took to various men’s retreats, Seattle (Promise Keepers) and Washington, D.C. (Stand-in-the-Gap). What great times! Kim was a real leader in the men’s ministry and taught me how to have more compassion for others. He was also our small group leader and close neighbor for many years.
My condolences go out to Melanie and your many families.

To Melanie and Family —- This is to pay tribute to Kim and express condolences to you. I was out of town and unfortunately unable to attend the funeral. This is always a conflicting time after the death of a loved one. We sing praises knowing that Kim is now walking on streets of gold and is face to face with his Lord and Savior. However there is the human response of loss and sorrow. It is my prayer that comfort will come soon.
Kim was a very special person, gifted with leadership skills which he used so effectively in his many areas of service in multiple areas. He represented in the most special way I have ever seen the traits of Christian servanthood along with Christian warriorship. Her will be missed!!
