In Memory Of

Kurt O. Schroeder, age 67 of Helena

October 6, 1953 – December 23, 2020

Kurtis O. Schroeder, age 67 of Helena passed away December 23, 2020.  Kurt was born in Havre, Montana to Bonnie and Orville Schroeder on October 6, 1953.

Kurt worked as a mechanic for BNSF in Havre, Montana.  He relocated to Helena following his retirement, to be near his daughter, Krissy,

Kurt enjoyed collecting classic cars, exploring on his motorcycles while visiting with everyone he met along the way, storytelling around the fire, but mostly making everyone laugh with his one-liners and sarcastic sense of humor.  Everybody has a “Papa Kurt” story.  He will be remembered for his kind giving heart, random late night text messages; but most of all, the love he had for this daughters, grand kids, extended family members and many friends.

Kurt is survived by his daughters; Mandy Huntington and Krissy (Dave) Normandy; Sister Char Diaz; grandchildren, Kagen May, Brandon and Brooklyn Huntington, Keaton (Bean) Normandy, Cole and Connor Johnston; niece, Chana (Buddy) Bunton; nephew, Jeff (Glenda) Carr; great niece, Kiana Carr; great nephews, Ethan Bunton and Hayden Carr.

Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Orville Schroeder and son-in-law TJ Johnston.

The family will hold a service celebrating Kurt’s life at a later date.

Krissy,Mandy,Char, Kurtis came to work for me at the Phillips 66 in Havre next to Highline Dodge in 1973. He worked for me about a year before being hired on at the railroad. We have been freinds ever since. He called me about a week before this happened and we had a good visit. I always drove to his place out of Helena atleasted twice a year and he would come to Great Falls to see me. We talked about the good old days and our classic cars. When I heard of what happened it left a emptyness in me that I will never forget. I will always miss him. Bob Vylasek.

So sorry for your loss. Never saw much of Kurt after leaving Havre many years ago in 78. Always a funny guy with a quick wit. His passing surprised me as much too young. Good memories.
