Anyone who knew Kyle would agree that he lived life to the fullest in the short 26 years he walked this earth. Anyone who knew Kyle would also point out that “walked” is not the right term—He ran and juggled and leapt and cartwheeled. His energy was almost unreal. In the course of any given existential and/or absurd conversation with Kyle, he’d likely be juggling your favorite or most valuable glassware, or flinging himself on the floor to knock out some crunches, or if you were outside, he might simply run sprints or turn cartwheels while his phone, keys and change flew out of his pockets. His conversations were always so deep (or completely ridiculous) that you really needed to pay attention, but it was difficult not to get distracted by the swirling Kyle Tornado.
Kyle suffered the anxiety that accompanies a mind that never stops, but when we moved to Montana, he vowed that he would redefine his life; that he would never let fear keep him from doing something he wanted to do. It was an inspired thought for an eleven-year-old kid, and it was a vow he kept for the remainder of his life. The adventures he found were too numerous to count. Alone, he would head into the wildernesses of Montana, often running until he collapsed. It was nothing for him to cover sixty miles on foot in a weekend. He would often shelter for the night under an overhanging rock or in a hollow tree with only a power bar for dinner.
He rode his mountain bike from Helena to the Pacific coast, but of course he was determined not to do any of it on pavement. He rode to the ends of trails, carried his bike through forests, and crashed down mountains. He rode through a desert, consuming his water and betting on refilling at a spring on his map, only to find it dry, and having to ride another twenty miles to the next water, delirious with thirst.
But on all of his journeys, with all of their trials, it was the people he met that he spoke of the most; mountain men, ranchers, homeless people, other wanderers and friendly café owners. Kyle found wisdom in everyone’s life philosophy and he dreamed of someday helping other travellers and wanderers on their journeys.
Art and music occupied his busy mind when he could sit still. He played the guitar and wrote songs. He played brilliantly in acrylics, oils and marker, always experimenting with themes and media. Most of his art he gave away to friends and strangers. His art would appear, sometimes on large canvasses, and sometimes on little scraps of paper and plastic that would flutter out of an opened cabinet door or pour out with the cereal in the morning.
And he worked. Like everything else he did, he gave his all in any job he had—it didn’t matter whether he loved it or hated it. At his childhood home in Rimini, he dug a trench three feet deep and two hundred and fifty feet long, with a pick and shovel, down the mountain from the spring to the house… in two days.
Finally, in the all-out way he did everything, he fell head-over-heels in love with Kelsey Morris. “I would do anything for that person.” he said very earnestly. And he would have.
Kyle leaves behind Kelsey Morris, his love and his “Partner in Crime.” He leaves behind his younger brother Leif, with whom he was inseparable. Kyle would often seek out Leif’s gentle wisdom, and Leif enjoyed the chaotic brilliance of Kyle’s thoughts. He leaves behind his parents, Bret and Renee Boundy, who will be forever thankful for all they learned from “The Kyle.” There are so many others, friends and family, who made Kyle’s life richer, and in turn were richer for knowing him. He will be missed.

Although you do not know me, I was a friend and a co worker to Kyle for 3 seasons here at Big Sky. He always had a positive attitude and outlook about everything no matter how bad his day was. I had the pleasure of being neighbors with him this past summer and grew close to Kyle. He is a very special and unique individual who loved music as much as I did.

To the Brett Boundy Family….I knew Kyle from his time at Big Sky Resort. I worked in the Huntley Kitchen and he was a runner in Outside Condos summer of ’17. I recieved from him a small slip of paper with his artwork on it! We were driving down the mountain from the resort to go have Dinner at The Riverhouse Grill! I gave him a small digital camera! I just came across his obituary and I was just floored! The picture I took of the two of us together right before we left for dinner that night will mean more to me now! May you be comforted by Gods love and tranquiity.
