In Memory Of

Lawrence A. “Larry” Rosin, age 91 of Helena

March 4, 1928 – December 3, 2019

Lawrence (Larry) Rosin, 91, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle & friend, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Larry was born on March 4th, 1928 in Billings MT to Math & Kathrin (Siegle) Rosin. At this time the family lived in Fallon.  When Larry was a young boy Math purchased a farm near Power & moved his wife & 4 young children to that area.  Larry attended the Greenfield School until his father’s health failed & he was unable to continue his education.  Working on the farm with his mother & working numerous jobs in the area, he was able to help the family through these difficult years.

On January 14, 1951 he & Delores Stordahl were married in the small country church where they had met… St. Paul’s Lutheran. This began a long, loving & rewarding partnership, spanning 68 years.  They lived & worked in Great Falls until Larry was called to active duty with the Montana Air National Guard.  The next few years he was stationed at Moody AFB in Georgia & at George AFB in California, where he & Delores experienced new adventures in living.  After Larry’s honorable discharge they made their home in Great Falls.  Larry worked for White Refrigeration & the 7-Up Bottling Company until 1959 when he established a partnership with good friend, Frank Duff, in Duff-Rosin Distributing.   Larry was a 20-year member of the Montana Beer Wholesaler’s Association, holding the office of Treasurer for 10 years; a charter member of the Great Falls Downtown Kiwanis Club, & an avid bowler.  During these years in Great Falls, his partnership with Delores grew & flourished as they raised their 3 children & were blessed with treasured life-long friendships.

In 1969 the family moved to Helena where Larry purchased the Budweiser franchise & formed Rosin Distributing. The years ahead were exciting & challenging, with family activities, making new friends & getting involved in a thriving community.  Larry was an active member of the Helena Exchange Club & a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. In 1979 Larry made the decision to sell the business.  He purchased a couple of semi-trucks & began a new venture in Rosin-Swenson Trucking.  When his partner & good friend, Larry Swenson died in 1996, he continued the trucking company until his own retirement.

Larry & Delores loved traveling in their RV. Most of all they cherished the time spent at their summer home on Holter Lake where Larry pursued his passion for fishing & boating.

Larry lived an active Christian life, dedicating many hours of service to his Lord & the members of his church family at Our Saviors Lutheran & Faith Lutheran in Great Falls & Our Redeemer’s Lutheran, Helena. He served on church councils, bldg. committees & maintenance boards.  He loved life; was thankful for blessings & good times, while patient & accepting of life’s difficult experiences.  He loved his family, treasured his friends & was always “on call” to help his fellowman.   He seemed to be able to tackle just about any physical job put before him, with a kind heart, generous spirit & seemingly endless energy.

Larry will be deeply missed by his loving wife Delores, son Terry & daughter in law Linda Rosin of Stevensville, daughter Jeannie & son in law Mic Ryan of East Helena, daughter Shirley & son in law Marty Miller of Billings; grandchildren, Kristi, Michael (Heather), Cody (Alex), Amanda & Dylan; great grandchildren Jamesyn & Rhettick. “Uncle Larry” also held a very special place in the hearts of his numerous nephews & nieces.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herbert & sister in law Millie Rosin, sister Emma & brother in law Harold Hodges & sister Esther and brother in law, Herb Schmidt.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church 3580 N. Benton Ave. Helena. A reception in the social hall of the church will immediately follow the service.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gilbert, Dr. Paustian, Dr. Weiner & the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital & Touchmark for their excellent & personal care for Larry.

Memorials are suggested to our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church 3580 N. Benton Ave. or to a charity of your choice.

A true gentleman, Larry will be remembered by the entire Showen family as a wonderful neighbor. In fact, we still do, and always will, refer to your house at the corner of 5th Ave. South and 40th St., in Great Falls, as the Rosin’s house. We were so lucky to be able to create memories at your cabin at Holter Lake, and I will remember Larry as a kind and welcoming man, half of the most perfect couple, Larry and Delores.

Delores and family~ Oh how I will miss “Uncle Larry”. When lived in Helena he became that Uncle to me. Raised in the Schmidt family with Aunt Esther and Uncle Herb as my god parents the Rosins also became family. I will miss you Uncle Larry and will always love and appreciate your sense of humor, warm hugs and gentle nature. Thank you for being that “Uncle Larry” to me. I will never forget when Mathias got his 3rd grade Bible we walked into church and there was Uncle Larry and Aunt Delores to be there as they were visiting Pastor Steve It was such a great time to have them there with us. Sending love and prayers to our Rosin family.

Mrs. Rosin I’m so sorry to hear of Mr. Rosin’s passing. He was such a wonderful neighbor with a ready smile and wave. We had a good laugh a few years ago when the street was so icy he couldn’t get his car up to the house so we had to put spikes on his shoes to get him back up to the house! Praying for your family during this sad time. Karin Finley
