In Memory Of

Lawrence V. ‘Larry’ Maddock, age 73, of Clancy

April 17, 1945 – May 5, 2018

Larry (Nub) Maddock, age 73, of Helena, Montana, passed away on Saturday, May 5th, 2018, after a brief battle with Neuroendocrine Carcinoma.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, the love of his life for 39 years of marriage and longer. He is also survived by his son, Mike (Charlene) Maddock and daughters, Teresa Wilson and Kelly (Adrian) Massey; grandchildren: Matthew, Morgan, Meghan, Madison, (Mike) Michael, Halie, Emma, (Teresa) River, and Sage (Kelly); brothers: Pat Ridley, Cliff Maddock, and Jim Ridley; and sisters: LaQuita Markle and Joyce Montigue.

His son, Todd Maddock, and five siblings precede him in death.

Larry was born in Pocatello, Idaho, into a farming family, but Larry didn’t care for the farming life and at the age of 17, lied about his age to join the military.

Larry served in the United States Navy for 22 years before settling in Montana to raise his family. He retired Petty Officer First Class and served in nine tours in Vietnam.

Larry’s next career would span 33 years as he managed Helena Manor Apartments and supervised Almanor Apartments and The Meadows in Lewistown. When most people looked at dad’s work ethic and dedication, they would comment about how his position allowed him to tinker, build, and fix problems. People who were close to Larry knew that for him it was about taking care of the people who chose to live at his properties and giving them a place that they could call home. He would even sleep in the office if he needed to maintain a boiler through the night so a building would have heat while his tenants would sleep. He was a jack-of-all-trades and would teach anyone who was willing to learn. For Larry it was always about helping the people around him, not just problem solving.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home with a reception to follow the service in the Social Hall of the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Harrison after the reception.
