Leonard Pachl was born December 30, 1934 to Frank and Mary (Jirges) Pachl
on the family farm south of Dickinson. He attended the Wild Rose Country
School southwest of Dickinson. He served in the Unites States Air Force from
April 1957 through May 1959.
Leonard married the love of his life Rose Weiler on July 27, 1959, at St Pius
Catholic Church in Schefield, ND. They moved to Helena in May of 1963, where
Leonard worked as a professional floor covering installer until retiring in 1996.
Leonard was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd & 4th degree. He served
as Grand Knight & District Deputy. He was a member of the St Pius Verein.
Leonard and Rose managed the Knights of Columbus Hall for 15 years. He was
a long standing member of St. Mary’s Catholic Community.
He liked woodworking in his garage, bingo, jigsaw puzzles, and the fun he had
at bowling tournaments. Many family gatherings were spent playing cards,
games, and dancing. It was always a joy to watch dad and mom dance, they
loved to Polka and Waltz. When there were family gatherings, you would find
Leonard hanging out with his nieces and nephews. He didn’t need toys to play
with the grandkids, just boxes and laundry baskets. They would play for hours
getting rides from grandpa. He worked hard to make a living for his family.
Leonard believed that family came first and instilled this in all his children. He
was a wonderful role model, fun-loving, kind, caring, hardworking and proud
of his family.
In the last few years he put up a brave fight as he battled lung disease, heart
disease and diabetes. Leonard passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at
home with Rose by his side holding his hand.

Uncle, you are missed. I remember coming up to Helena for a visit and Uncle Leonard turned his work van into a traveling van. We must have had ½ or more of Aunt Rose’s living room furniture in that van! My parents, Gayle, Greg, Aunt Rose, Uncle Leonard and myself traveled to Washington to visit Uncle George, Aunt Mary and family. Thanks for all the laughs.

It was such a privilege to know Leonard. Many of my best childhood memories were spent at the Pachls and with Leonard. It seemed his mouth was always on the verge of a smile. Sitting on tack strips on the way to school and bowling doesn’t sound fun but Mr. Pachl always made the ride more than just a trip to somewhere. The quality of his life is more than evident in his family. Neal, Carol, Ethan, Emma and Rose, Greg, Nita and Junie know that we are all thinking of you. My life is much brighter because of the time I spent with Leonard and the Pachls.
Valerie Raisch says
