Leonard Raymond Hulst, 81, of Helena, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 12, 2011. He was born April 29, 1930 to Rudolph Hulst and Lena Gulbranson in Crookston, Minnesota.
He grew up and attended schools in Badger, Minnesota. After school, he entered into the Army at 17 years old. He served altogether 12 years in the military, including the National Guard.
Leonard married Muriel “Mo” Powell on May 30, 1953 in Willamina, Oregon. He worked primarily as a Teamster for road construction companies. He and Muriel were also past co-owners of Guaranteed Muffler with their son, Dennis. Among other positions, he worked for Inland Asphalt from Spokane WA, Zook Bros. Construction of Great Falls, MT, and Helena Sand & Gravel.
Leonard was an avid snowmobiler, loved taking trips in his RV, and was a past avid hunter. He was a member of the Elks Club, and a past member of Helena Snowdrifters, Good Sam, RV’ers, and Foretravel N.W. clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel “Mo” Hulst; sons, Kevin (Tanja) Hulst and Dennis (Diane) Hulst; daughters, Darlene “Doll” (Jim) Wiseman and Karlene “Timmy” (Brian) Bayer; brother, Bobby Hulst; sisters, Margaret Habbin and Olga Johnson; grandchildren, Billie Jo (Chris) Johnson, Shawn Blessinger, Dani Tuffli (Will Martin), Kristopher Wiseman, J.D. Tams, Justin Hulst, Nicole Hulst, Jaimee Hulst, Candyce Benton and Angela Benton; and great-grandchildren, Koby Tuffli, Samantha Martin, Rylee Wiseman, Landon Wiseman, Haylee Wiseman, and Andy Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, July 18th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. A Military Honor Guard service will follow at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Harrison.
