Charlie was a story teller and adventurer that left no stone unturned and no battle unfought. His tales were endless and occasionally tall…but always entertaining. He said he was born in Kansas City, Missouri and moved to Montana when he was very young. He grew up on the family farm learning to work hard and play hard.
Charlie joined the Army 1939-1945 and spent most of that time with the infantry in Europe. He was named while there and had a son David. He divorced and returned to Montana. Charlie received several medals while serving his country a bronze star, 2 purple hearts.
Charlie was proud of how strong he was and how he survived losing his right arm in a hay baler in 1957.
He lived in Kallispell with his wife and children. Charlie said he sold insurance and raised a one acre garden.
He enjoyed rodeoing, dancing and said he tap danced on Broadway…
He was preceded in death by his beloved dog Abbey.
Charlie spent the last 10 years living in Helena with a short stint in Great Falls.

I will miss Charle’s stories. I used to bring him bread from my bakery, when he could no longer drive, and I always enjoyed having a short visit, hearing his latest “adventures” and giving Abbey, his dog, a stroll outside.
A Friend of Charles.

We will miss my Uncle Lester (what we called him ) so much. He has written about a ten page diary of his experiences in the war; I am going to type them up & share them, with anyone who would like a copy. He really did have an illustrious life, that most people only dream about. We will miss him greatly.
