Lonna Maria Applegate
Mommy, Grandma, Mom, “Lonna me a Dollar”
On the day of November 11th, 2024, Lonna tragically passed away. Lonna had been going through on-going stage three cancer treatments and had been supported by her family. Unfortunately, the day Lonna passed, she was alone at home living in Helena, Montana.
The last time she wrote a message or talked on the phone was at 2:07 on this day, November 11, 2024. The coroner’s office pronounced her death at 11p.m.
Lonna’s cause of death was a heart attack.
Lonna was a fighter, and she fought hard, but the chemo treatments were too much for her heart. Lonna died at the young age of 58.
Lonna was born in San Jose on August 3, 1966. She had five brothers, David Davis, Eugene Donelly, Carl Presley, Shawn Simpson, and Bobby Jo Jr.
Lonna didn’t have the best upbringing. She was raised by her mother, Carolyn Applegate, but also mostly grew up in foster homes and group homes. She never knew who her father, Jimmy Jo Bodenschatz and one half-brother, Anton Bodenschatz, until she searched five years on Ancestry. Lonna fought to find her blood line.
Lonna received great love from her mom and brothers but, never knew what real love felt like until she had her four children. She knew from the moment her first born was in her arms that she had to make better choices to give her children a better chance at life than she had. Although there were struggles due to addiction, ten years ago Lonna chose to get clean. Since she has gotten clean, she has shown all four of her children a new way to live and has given her all to being the best mom and grandma she can. With the help of her church “Monarchs” she also attended Celebrate Recovery and led NA meetings in Yreka California. Lonna was also dedicated to her jobs which involved helping people with mental health and disabled adults which made her feel like she was truly making a difference in the world, it gave her so much joy.
Lonna is survived be her four children, Kayla McLearn, Kabrena McLearn, Kolbie McLearn and Christopher Smith; her twenty grandchildren, Lacy, Anthony, Logan, Joshua, Montana, Lauren, Madison, Christopher Jr., Landon, Laiton, Brayden, Brooklyn, Alexandria, Havyn, Lillie, Octavian, Zander, Amelia, Anaya, Little Lonna; two great grandchildren, Finley and Hayden; three daughters-in-law, Mariah Meyers, Angel Davis and Ashley Svaleson.
Viewing will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3rd at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. Graveside services will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery.

Lonna and I became friends over 50 years ago. I just spoke to her two days before her passing. I’m at peace right now as she’s no longer in pain, having chemotherapy or radiation therapy. I believe she’s with Jesus as she loved Him with her whole heart. God never makes mistakes. He called her name and now she’s in paradise! To all the family, my condolences.

IN THE HOUSE OF ETERNITY
(- dedicated to sweet Lonna my childhood friend)
Now you are in the house of eternity
having left us too soon.
The shape of you lingers as a fragrance
where the love you lived
becomes the love you’ve left behind.
Now you are in the house of eternity.
We are standing in the temple
of memory
holding onto the intangible
and miraculous,
standing in the shadow of your absence,
waiting for the sound of wings.
Your gentle candlelight reminds us
of our aloneness
while the inner voice of love
comes to show us
your exile is finally over.
Now you are in the house of eternity.
listening to songs
only sung for the beautiful souls
who have arrived home.
