Loralee J. Heavirland, age 79, of Chester

Loralee Jane Heavirland was born April 2, 1943 in Shelby, Montana to Elmer and Audrey Heavirland. She grew up in the Oilmont/Sunburst area and attended elementary school in Oilmont.  She graduated from Shelby High School in 1961. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri and married Marvin Steinwand in 1962, shortly before he was drafted in to the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Her first child, Greg, was born in 1964 and she returned to Shelby to be near her family while Marvin overseas. After his discharge, the family relocated to Lompoc, California. Loralee worked for the US Postal Service and gave birth to their second child, Bryon, in 1969. The family returned to Shelby and Loralee began working for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator. After her divorce from Marvin, she transferred to the Helena office of Mountain Bell until the mid-90’s. Loralee then took a position with AT&T as a TDY Operator for the hearing impaired and was based in Seattle, WA until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and furniture restoration. She did many DIY projects on her homes and those of family members. Loralee also loved camping every summer with her family; playing games but most especially spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She was a wonderful big sister to her two younger sisters and is deeply missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer, mother, Audrey Wigen, step-dad, Byron Wigen, and brother, Loren Heavirland.

She is survived by her sons, Greg and Bryon (Pat), grandchildren, Tristin, Emily and Sophie Steinwand and her great-grandchild, Matthais and Stella. Other survivors include siblings LaVerne (Sheila), and Leroy (Helena) Heavirland, Brad (Natasha) Wigen, Kari (Paul) Fallang and Kathy Whalen, and sister-in-law Sue Heavirland as well as nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home 3750 Montana Ave. Helena, Montana 59602. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the Funeral home.
