Lorraine Hunter George passed away after a prolonged illness on August 13, 2024. She was 90 years old. She married Orville George November 6th, 1954.
Lorriane was born March 2nd, 1934 in Roundup, Montana and grew up in Lavina, Montana. She graduated from Butte High School in 1953 and attended 1 year at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. After raising her family, one of Lorraine’s accomplishments was owning and operating Lorraine’s Bridal Boutique in Helena, MT.
Lorraine had a difficult childhood, which she overcame, and made her the strong woman of character and conviction that we all knew and loved. She possessed a positive approach to life and deep gratitude for all that she had, which included, above all, the large close-knit family she and Orville started in 1955. A long-time member of the Sons of Norway, Lorraine was very social and made scores of close friends throughout her life. She was without question the glue that kept the family close and was an energetic and reliable grapevine for everyone. And like many mothers, Lorraine sometimes acted as her husband’s emotional translator.
Lorraine’s many talents included singing with the Big Sky Singers, knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, baking, and painting. She loved puzzles, especially crossword puzzles. She was very creative and would try almost any craft, usually with stellar results. Her expertise at preparing Lefse was legendary. She loved to play card games, listen to the music of Lorreta Lynn, and spend time with family. Lorraine was very smart and not at all intimidated by technology, quickly mastering the complexities of various types of sewing machines and often serving — usually with good humor — as her husband’s IT troubleshooter.
Both Lorraine and Orville loved camping (often with the Telephone Pioneers) and traveling the US in their fifth-wheel, visiting their children and many grandchildren.
Lorraine was known to be kind, thoughtful, loving, and spirited. She had a strong Christian faith and an ardent belief in the Golden Rule and the adage “two wrongs don’t make a right,” both of which she exemplified through her actions and words.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Orville J. George and her infant son, Gary. As well as her parents, Richard Hunter, Tena Mashino and her brother Wade Hunter. Lorraine is survived by her six children, Dorie (Dick) Blevins, Debbie (Mike) Curtis, Karla Graveley, Karen (Don) Luke, Alan (Lisa) George, and Kimberly George as well as 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, and her siblings Verlene and John.
Memorial Donations in Lorraine’s name is suggested to the Alzheimer’s Research Association or to St. Peter’s Hospice.

I ate a lot of that Lefsa! I will forever remember and appreciate the wonderful family get togethers out at Orville and Lorraine’s, with a huge spread of food and so many kids it was hard to keep track. Thanks for everything Lorraine, and my deepest condolences to Alan and Lorraine’s entire family, she will be missed.

Sorry to hear about Lorraine’s passing. The George family was one of first people my folks met when they stopped in Helena on their way to Washington in 1937. Became the best of life-long friends. We lived on Poplar Street so we got together on so many occasions. So many great memories. God bless Lorraine and her families.

I have wonderful memories growing up with all the Georges.
Lorraine was like a 2nd mom to our family. She was the wonderful cook and best seamstress I knew. Always delicious food at the George’s house and alot of crafts. I have great memories of summer camping with the George’s as well. Lorraine and Orville raised a beautiful and wonderful family. They are missed.
Hugs to each of you !
