In Memory Of

Lorraine Steiner, age 87, formerly of Great Falls

March 16, 1925 – February 19, 2013

On the evening of February 19, 2013, Lorraine passed away peacefully of natural causes. Lorraine was being visited and comforted by family members and the staff of Country Life Assisted Living facility in Montana City, MT. Lorraine was 87 years old.

In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Cremation will take place under the care and direction of Retz Funeral Home in Helena.

Lorraine was born in Benton, Arkansas, on March 16, 1925. She was the youngest of eight children of Fitzhugh and Lela Morrow. Her mother died when Lorraine was 6 years old. She was raised by her father and her oldest sister and husband, Lottie and Olin Ham. She was raised in Arkansas and Texas and had an active youth; she was an avid athlete, excelling in tennis and softball. After WWII she moved to Great Falls where she worked as a bookkeeper and parachute packer at Malmstrom AF base. She married Howard Steiner on June 1, 1947. Howard made the family living working on the railroad while Lorraine remained at home raising their three children. Howard passed away in 2000.

Lorraine volunteered for any activity that was necessary to support her children. She was an excellent seamstress and loved crafts. After Howard retired, they spent numerous hours volunteering for St. Vincent’s DePaul, the BN Employees club, and the VFW. She had a hard time passing up a game of cards at the senior center with friends.

She is survived by her three children, Carrolyn (Rod) Vidal of Newport, WA, Joe (Vicki) Steiner of Montana City, and Lorraine “Toni” (Gary) Pressley of Townville, SC; grandchildren, Kristin (Vivek) Deshmukh, Erik Rogers, Darin (Andrea) Steiner, Jason (Melissa) Steiner, Gillian (Benji) Black, and James Pressley; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. William Bell of Jonesboro, AR; and several nieces and nephews.

Donations in Lorraine’s honor can be made to St. Vincent de Paul, 426 Central Avenue W., Great Falls, MT, 59404, or the charity of choice.
