Louie Avery Stiles was born January 15th, 1948, in Sedro-Woolley, WA to Louie and Mary Stiles. Louie passed away at Elkhorn Rehab in Clancy surrounded by family on February 8th, 2022. His ashes will now join those of his beloved wife Peggy in their garden as he wished.
Although Louie was adamant that is all I write in his obituary, we had to write more about his life than just this. Anyone who knew Louie knew joining his wife on his terms was his decision and meant everything to him, however his life meant more to others than he wanted to realize.
Louie graduated from Sedro-Woolley high school in 1967, it is here he met his beautiful wife Peggy and fell in love. They later married in 1970 and remained together until her death two years ago. Louie Joined the Navy in 1967 and was a proud service member until his honorable discharge in1973. Louie proudly served in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic and made his family proud by being a Vietnam Veteran, he always had a story to tell about his time overseas.
Louie moved to Montana shortly after his marriage and began his family, helped with family businesses and Louie began working in the logging business. Louie logged for many, many years until an injury prevented him for doing this work any longer. Peggy at the time was a contractor for a Clancy route as a mail carrier for the Post Office and convinced Louie this would be a safer job for him, and he agreed. This is where Louie remained working even at the age of 73, working until the day of his stroke 3 months before his death. He proudly worked for the Clancy Post Office for over 20 years. Anyone who knew Louie knew he was such a hard worker and will forever be remembered as such. He gained many friendships throughout his time at the Post Office that he valued immensely, many being 4-legged friends too! Louie always was known to carry a bag of treats for his furry friends.
Louie has been cremated and will join Peggy in their garden soon which he has waited a long time for. We were not ready for Louie to leave this world, but he was ready to be reunited with his wife. Louie had a tough time after Peggy’s death therefore this should bring us all comfort that they are together again. We will always remember Louie for his uncanny humor, his humble kindness, that quirky laugh with that great smile, his stubbornness, his opinionated nature and especially his hard-work ethic. But most importantly he was a great Dad and an even better Grandpa and a devoted husband.
Louie is survived by his two sons, Douglas (Paula) Avery Stiles of Liberty Lake, Washington and Eric (Danielle Young) Lee Stiles of Clancy, Montana. His pride and joy; his 4 grandchildren, Serena Lee Stiles, Avery Ray Stiles, Hailee Maria Stiles all of Clancy, MT and Austin Eugene Stiles of Liberty Lake, WA. He is survived by many In Laws and extended family and friends.
Louie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Lee Stiles (Meins) his parents, Louie J. Stiles and Mary Elizabeth (Wulff) Stiles, his sister Noretta Pedersen (Stiles).
We would like to give a special thanks to entire staff at Elkhorn Rehab and Encompass Hospice for your amazing care of Louie in his final months of life. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten. Thank you to the nurse at Elkhorn who was with us until the end, you were extra special to Louie and your friendship and compassion meant a lot to Louie and his family. The family would also like to thank St. Peters in Helena and Benefis in Great Falls for saving Louie’s life so we could have this extra time with him and a special lady Kiela McAlmond, and all the first responders that night for helping Louie at the scene of his accident after suffering a stroke. You all made such difference that allowed us many more memories with him and allowed to get things ‘taken care of’ just the way he wanted.

Eric and Doug, you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I am thankful that I got to talk to your Dad after we moved back. We shared a laugh, which was not uncommon when we talked. Peace be with you all.

I am Louie’s cousin. His father was my mother’s brother. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He made some beautiful log furniture my mother, Faye, bought from him for the Pacific City, Oregon community center and he brought it to Oregon. I have not seen Louie for many years, but I kept up with him through Little Billy and Brock Stiles. Rest in peace dear cousin. Give my mom a big hug when you get to heaven. She is waiting to greet you!

To the family I am so very sorry for your loss. Louie was the very best mail carrier that the Clancy Post Office had and he took such pride in his work! He always had the mail bundled in rubber bands and neatly leaning upright in the mailbox so you didn’t have to struggle to retrieve your mail. Louie will be missed for sure!
