In Memory Of

Lowell S. Ward, age 69, of Jefferson City

November 21, 1949 – August 9, 2019

LOWELL SANFORD WARD was born November 21, 1949 as a Monday child in Los Angeles California at the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California.  He passed away at his home in Jefferson City on Friday, August 9th, 2019.  He was born to Jimmy and Artis Ward and later joined by a younger brother, Harlan of Oregon.

Lowell graduated with the Class of 1968 from Foothills High School in Bakersfield, California, and then received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1974 from the University of Nevada at Reno. Lowell was also a Certified Fraud Examiner.

In 1991, he married Melissa De-Carlos and their son, Jaret Lee Ward was born in 1997.

During Lowell’s youth, his father was in the Airforce, and the family resided in Germany, Japan and Finland.  As a youngster, Lowell played Little League baseball in both the US and abroad; however, he sustained a significant lifelong knee injury as a result of the sport.

Post high school, Lowell received an honored appointment to the US Airforce Academy, however, due to his chronic knee injury, he was forced to decline the appointment.

In 1974, Lowell joined the Reno Police Department as a Patrolman.  Over the new few years, he was promoted through the ranks to a Major Crimes Team Detective with a tenacity as a homicide investigator.  Lowell’s his knee injury again began to restrict his police work, so he resigned from the force and the family relocated to Portland, Oregon.  Lowell’s work in law enforcement afforded him the opportunity to begin a career as an investigator with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles and in 1989, with the Oregon Department of Justice, Financial Fraud Section.  In 1995, Lowell retired from DOJ and moved his family to Montana where he began his own consulting business of AEGIS Consulting and Investigations.  Next, Lowell started, owned and operated a second business AAA Registered Agent.  He successfully managed both businesses until the time of his death.

Lowell was a renown photographer and an avid fly fisherman.  He was once chased by a moose while attempting to photograph this majestic animal at very close range. Lowell rarely could be found in the outdoors without his camera. His photographs are artistic and beautiful.

Once while fly fishing the Dearborn River with his best friend, they ended up in white water that took them downstream arm in arm without a flotation device.   Lowell fished many rivers in Montana, Yellowstone, and Glacier Parks over the years. He truly had the “patience of a fisherman”.

Lowell also loved to cook – he was a fabulous chef with specialties of homemade Lasagna and the family secret recipe of Armenian Rice Pilaf.  Lowell often cooked without recipes.

Lowell attended Helena’s First Assembly Church and was extremely passionate about his work with The Gideons.  He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Melissa, his son Jaret and brother Harlan.

Memorial services will be Friday, August 16 at 5:00pm at the Helena’s First Assembly Church.  In lieu of flowers and in memory of Lowell, please make donations to The Gideons International  c/o Helena’s Camp @ P.O.
