Margaret (Margo) Kathryn Griffiths Munson passed away peacefully on May 5, 2019, with her children at her side. Margo, Known as Sis to her family, and Ducky to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born in Lake Andes, South Dakota, on January 16, 1943. Margo was the youngest of three children, and the only girl, which is how she obtained the nickname Sis. The family moved to Montana in the early 1950’s. Margo married Stanley (Stan) K. Munson on July 21, 1959 in Cour D’Lane, Idaho. Stan and Margo were happily married for just shy of 51 years, until Stan passed away on May 6, 2010. Stan and Margo raised four children in Helena, mostly on/at Fort Harrison; Stan Jr. (Cyndy) of Helena, Kelly Samuelson of San Diego, CA, Everett (Leann) of Gardiner, MT, and Kathleen (Tessa) Munson (Phillip Woodbridge) of Tacoma, WA.
Margo loved her family, always having a home cooked meal, and an ear to listen to your problems or celebrate your successes. Mom loved to play cards, spend time with her family and friends, thrift stores, garage sailing, spending time with her family, and traveling to see her children. She loved reading and collecting cookbooks, looking for different and yummy recipes to share with her family.
Margo is preceded by her husband, Stan; her mother Florence Davis Grffiths, her father, Everett Griffiths, her brother Lyle, sister-in-law Judith Griffiths, father-in-law Sigurd Munson, mother-in-law Ruth Munson, nephews Kris Griffiths, and Bradley Griffiths. She is survived by her brother Alan (Donna) Griffiths, her children Stan Jr, Kelly, Everett, and Kathleen, and grandchildren; Joseph Grove, Jordan Samuelson, Jennifer Samuelson, Stanley Munson III, Nathan Munson, Erin Munson, Jeffrey Munson, Karl Munson, David Munson, Megan Munson, and Jacob Munson.

I have so many great memories of Margo and Stan, such wonderful people. I don’t believe the Fort Harrison PX would exist today without Margo. I remember visiting them in the little house next to the old USP&FO. My deepest sympathies to her family, the world lost a very bright and shining light with her passing.
Allan Stricker says
Margo was a great, wonderful, and caring woman. She certainly was instrumental in the early days of the Fort Harrison PX, but she contributed so much more than that to the Guard as a whole. I will always remember her with kind thoughts. My thoughts and sympathy for the family, especially those from the National Guard.

I have such good memories of Margo and Stan growing up. From being told not to “play with that drain cleaner in the garage”, to Margo’s lovely cook book collection, it was always fun at the Munson house. My condolences to Tessa, Kelly, Stan and Everett. Your parents were awesome. God bless you all.
Beth Lamping says

To the Munson family. I am so sorry I was unable to attend Margo’s funeral but I was there in spirit. Margo and I go way back, cub scouts, school functions and just a cup of coffee and conversation. Margo had a heart as big as all outdoors. Many adventures we went on especially looking for horse “poop” to make our Montana “Turd” birds. A
helicopter flew over and I guess we got reported that a couple of ladies were taking the items but they were laughing. Thank goodness’ We did get quite a few “birds” were made. I always admired Margo so as she was always so good to people and the kids. I will miss her and I pray to God to keep her and Stan in the palm of His hand. Peace to you both. I love you.
