In Memory Of

Margaret M. Miller, age 94, of Helena

June 15, 1923 – August 26, 2017

Margaret Nason Miller was born on June 15, 1923 in Vida, Montana, to Romeo and Juliette Richard.   She was the 7th child of 8 born to this union.  She passed away on August 26, 2017.  Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who cherished and deeply loved her.

Margaret attended a one-room schoolhouse in Riverside, Montana, where she graduated from the 8th grade. Thereafter, she worked on the family farm with her siblings.  In 1946 she moved to Helena where she met James A. Nason.  They were married on July 5, 1947.  Five children were born to this union.  For 32 years Margaret took care of children in her home.  Her husband Jim died on June 16, 1975.

In 1976 she met Frank G. Miller. They married on November 5, 1977. This completed their family to seven children.

Our mom was a kind and gentle person, with many interests and hobbies. She was an excellent cook, and loved to bake. Fried cookies, cream puffs, and kraut bread were family favorites. Her gardens and canning were her favorite summer activities.

She also loved to create greeting cards, with her famous “MMM” original trademark on the back of each handmade card. They were treasured by all who received them.

She loved to play games! Live Keno, Bingo, Scrabble and especially the “cow” game (which her father invented). She was hard to beat.

Family was most important to Margaret. She especially enjoyed visits from her grandchildren. Each one was a blessing. Someone was always visiting and many delightful hours were spent laughing and sharing stories.  She loved a good joke.

Frank and Margaret loved to travel; sea cruises were their favorite. They took many road trips.

Margaret is survived by her children, James “Nick” Nason, Roy (Vickie) Miller, Carol (Jerry) Lemieux, Richard (Debi) Nason, Karla (Scott) Elder, Rita Nason, Berta Nason, and adopted daughter Kitty Cutting. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 120 W Riggs, East Helena, with a Funeral Mass to follow the viewing at the church. A reception will be held in the Social Hall of Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. immediately following the Mass. Donations may be made to the donor’s choice or to the American Heart Association.

We would like to thank the staff at Rosetta Assisted Living for their care and kindness, especially Laurie the Activities Director. And a special thanks to Jennie, mom’s senior companion.

Margaret was such a special lady. I have some wonderful memories of her with my daughters when they were little. I wasn’t allowed to visit unless I brought the girls 🙂 She leaves a very large vacancy in this world, but I know Frank is happy she’s with him again.
