Marguerite “Spot” O. Jones
Our Mom is now with Dad as of November 5, 2011. No more peach daiquiris, going fishing, St. Patti’s dinners and spending time out at the house near Canyon Ferry. Most of her life was spent with the family out camping and fishing. We believe that her last fishing trip, a couple of years ago, she caught the first fish and the largest – NO LIE!! Mom was always fun—she worked with the Internal Revenue, and the State Vocational Rehabilitation office. She spent her younger years out at the Holter Dam where her Grandfather and Grandmother worked, and was rocked when the earthquake destroyed her school. In high school she included Russian Dancing, and on her 80th birthday she was introduced into golf (that didn’t go well!). Her 90th birthday was one she couldn’t forget, belly dancers!!
Her first marriage was to a musician who played the horn with the Dorsey Brothers and others. Later, they divorced and then she cornered Dad and they were married for 36 years before his death. They had 5 kids to bring into adulthood. Mom was fun and we will miss her jokes and great parties.
She is survived by 5 children, Marlene (Phil) Mazuranich of Bozeman, Frank (Shari) Jones of Idaho, Wendy (Dan) Negethon of Colstrip, Roberta Jones-Wallace of Helena, and Susan (Steve) Schimmel of Helena; 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mom spent her last couple of years at the Shelby House and they took real good care of her there. Thanks Shelby!

It was my privilege to know Spot when I volunteered at Hunters Pointe. I was honored to interview her and write a profile for the monthly newsletter. Spot was a lively, engaging lady with a sense of humor like none I’d ever known.
Our world will be poorer with lack of her presence, but forever richer because of the time she spent with us and the numerous lives she touched. I will never forget her.

Last week marked the 27th anniversary or our moving to the house next door. Little did we know how much Spot would bring to our lives. She was our Montana Mother. It is really hard to realize she is really gone. She was bigger than life. Both Spot and I loved flashy jewelry and bright colors. We both enjoyed showing each other our newest colorful treasure- much to Larry’s chagrin. Larry recalled the time Spot hit the gas instead of the brake in the garage and pushed the garage off it’s foundation- we had to chuckle about that. I recall the time we had our litter of Airedales. Spot, a great animal lover, had to get down on the lawn to play with the puppies- this was of course 20 years ago- but still amazing. I think the reason we all enjoyed her peach daqs was because every time she mixed up a new batch she added a little more rum- which made them so much better. We know she is in Heaven with all her assorted dogs and cat- besides her loved ones. We love you Spot! Have a good time in Heaven.

My sympathies to the Jones Family. Spot was always fun to be around and always feisty. I will always remember her when I make that special chip dip (you know the one Susan). She was a wonderful lady.

I will miss this generous, fun, loving person who I had the pleasure to know. Spot, and all of her family, included and welcomed me with kindness I shall never forget.
