Marian Jean Layson, 86, most recently of Helena, Montana passed away the evening of August 5, 2023.
Marian was born on February 27th of 1937 to Tom and Hazel Gilson in San Francisco, California. The family moved to Oakland where Marian spent most of her youth and graduated from Fremont high school.
On July 25, 1959 she married Lt.JG William “Bill” Layson and shortly thereafter moved to Pensacola, Florida for several years before returning to Fremont, California where she lived and raised her young sons until a move to Spring Lake near Maple Valley, Washington in 1970.
In 1986 Marian and Bill moved from Spring Lake to Gig Harbor, Washington. In 1999 they began spending winters at their home in Sun City West, Arizona with a full time move to Arizona in 2017.
In October of 2022 following an injury suffered by her husband, Marian moved to Helena, Montana to be closer to her son Tom, daughter in law Shari and her grandson Brus along with his wife and two small daughters.
While she faced her share of health challenges, Marian had ten months enjoying family and eventually, being reunited with Bill upon his move to Helena in March of 2023.
Marian passed peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in Helena surrounded by her loving family.
Due to her many moves over the years and the difficulty of traveling faced by those of her friends, family and acquaintances who remain, no service is planned. Her ashes will eventually unite with Bill’s to be spread by family at a later date.
Marian, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother is survived by her husband Bill; sons Tom and David; grandchildren James, Brus, Alex, Ben and Anne Layson; and great grandchildren Charlee, Dean, Quinlee and Corey Layson. She met and held all but one of her great grandchildren.
The adjective most frequently used to describe Marian is, “sweet,” and so she remained until the end.
