Marie Therese Krebsbach Beveridge-Sloan, 87, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital from complications of pneumonia.
Marie was our beloved mother, grandma, sister, and aunt. She was born in Vida, Montana, (McCone County) on March 22, 1930. She was the youngest of five children of Paul and Margaret Krebsbach. She spent her early childhood on the Krebsbach family homestead in Vida and in Wolf Point.
Marie moved with her family to Missoula in 1937 when she was seven years old so that her oldest brother and sister could attend the University. She had fond memories of adventures with her brothers Doug and Wayne, and sisters Jean and Audrey, and many neighborhood and school friends. She and Audrey helped their mother with her boarding and rooming business in the family home on Eddy Avenue and then later at their home on Gerald Avenue. The family was active in the St. Anthony Catholic Parish. Marie attended St. Anthony School, one year at Loyola Sacred Heart Academy, and three years at Missoula County High School where she graduated. Many of the friendships she had made growing up in Missoula became lifelong.
After high school Marie attended the University of Montana, where she majored in early childhood education. She was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. She worked at Pearson Ida Women’s Clothing Store in the Wilma Building modeling and selling clothes. She was a talented seamstress, and she designed many of her outfits. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Patrick’s Hospital. While at the University she met her future husband Charles “Chuck” Beveridge. They married in Missoula in June 1952. She then moved to Helena where Chuck was a math and science teacher.
In Helena Marie and Chuck raised five children together at the family home on Missoula Avenue (Doug, Mary, Greg, Ed, and Meg). After their children were all in school, Marie went to work for the Helena Public Schools, working in the Central School Library as the Assistant Librarian for approximately ten years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed volunteering in many capacities and had a big heart for people who were less fortunate. The Beveridge family entertained many friends and guests over the years at their cabin on McClellan Creek. Marie and Chuck were married for thirty-one years, until cancer took Chuck’s life in 1983.
In May 1990, Marie married Newton “Smokey” Sloan in Helena. They later moved to Boulder, MT. In Boulder Marie attended St. Catherine Catholic Church, and always looked forward to functions at the Senior Center, events at Jefferson High School, and concerts in the park. She had a beautiful yard and garden, and loved her spirited dog Pokie. She was very proud of her nine grandchildren, and cherished all the other young people both in Helena and Boulder who over the years were part of her life.
We will remember Marie as a deeply caring, compassionate, and appreciative person. She spent the greater part of her life caring for others. She was a true blessing to all who knew her. We will forever love her and miss her.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Margaret Krebsbach, her brothers Doug Krebsbach and Wayne Krebsbach, her sister Jean Beaman, her first husband Chuck Beveridge, and her son Ed Beveridge. She is survived by her husband Newton Sloan; her sister Audrey Pierce; her sons Doug Beveridge (Linda) and Greg Beveridge (Beth); stepson Darryl Sloan (JoAnn); daughters Mary Beveridge and Meg Schnaderbeck; grandchildren Justin Beveridge, Danielle Beveridge, Alex Beveridge, Nick Sloan, Zach Beveridge, Dillion Beveridge, Gabby Beveridge, Emily Beveridge, and Sarah Schnaderbeck; and many nieces and nephews.

Smokey and family– I was saddened to hear of Marie’s passing. I never quite know what to say during these times, except that you have my sympathies. Marie was always good natured and very pleasant person to talk to. She will be remembered by many in the education field. I’ll miss talking with her. Ron

I would like to express my deepest condolences to your family and friends. Mere words cannot express the grief that comes from losing a loved one in death. What can give us a measure of comfort is the Bible’s promises of the day when sickness and death will be no more. Such words can hopefully ease the pain you all are experiencing at this time of sorrow. May the God of ALL comfort keep you enduring now and in the many days to come. May happy memories warm your hearts.
Revelations 21:3,4 2 Corinthians 1:2-4

I was very sad to hear of Marie’s passing. I have many fond memories, as Mary’s friend, spending time at the Beveridge home when I was in high school. Mary, your mom always made me laugh and feel at home at your house. I always looked forward to going there. She was always so upbeat and exuded life with her infectious smile and happy disposition. Just know Mary, and Alex, and family, that I share your grief.
