We lived next door to Reuben and Marien when they were newly married. My parents were great friends with Reuben and Marien. We enjoyed playing cards with them in later years. I always found Marien to be a joy to be around, she was truly a great lady. I am sorry for you great loss.

My husband and I are out of state and I just found out about Marien’s passing! I am so sorry to hear of Marien’s passing. Marien and Reuben were part of my life growing up in East Helena. We had lots of Hagen cousins: Reuben and Marien and their four girls, Melvin and Charlotte and their three boys, and Gust and Esther with my brother, Jim, and me. For a few years, we all lived on the same block on Porter Street in East Helena. Holidays were always celebrated together; one family had Thanksgiving, another family had Christmas, and the third family had New Year’s Day. Then the next year they switched off. But for over 20 years we always knew who we were spending holidays with. What good memories of fun in our tiny houses with all of those kids plus a couple of bachelor cousins from Minnesota. Marien and Esther were the last two of that generation. I am so sad and sorry not to be there. Loved that lady!
Kristi Gersch says
My parents were good friends with Marien and Reuben as were my sister, JoAnn and I friends with the girls. We lived across the street from each other with us on Grand and them on King street. Thinking back over the years that have gone by is overwhelming. My parents passed, one in 1995 and one in 1996. There was this group of friends, Marien and Reuben, Mel and Char, Ray and Vi, Donna and Joe that I have fond memories of time spent together. My sympathy in the loss of a great woman.
