Marjorie Gail Wolford Hagfeldt passed away on January 10, 2014 after a very courageous 9 year battle with cancer. Marjorie was born on February, 23, 1938 in Scobey, Mt. Her parents were Owen (Wally) L. Wolford and Ann M. Wolford.
Marge married Clifford L Hagfeldt and together they had 3 children, Doug (Anni) from Pleasanton, Ca., Donald (Melody) from Scobey and Lori (Dave) Hagfeldt Pillatzke from Helena. From those children she was blessed with 8 grandchildren.
Marge had many careers paths throughout her lifetime, her first being the farm. She was an accomplished cook, the flagger, equipment mover and support staff. She was very proud of her 2 acre garden and spent many days in the summer months canning and freezing and making the kids weed it! Marge was known for the great meals she carted to the harvest field, however during the off-season, she was referred to by more than one hired hand as the ‘bologna queen’. Her kids, kid’s wives and grandkids will all tell you that she taught them to cook.
In between all of the farming jobs, Marge was a very busy Mom. With all 3 of the kids involved in sports and music she continually kept up with their various activities, and was their biggest fan and supporter. She was one of the first to volunteer to chaperone on bus trips for music festivals. Her love of music continued to follow her to the end of her life.
Marge loved to bowl, was a good bowler, and her team consisted of her best friends. She and the team could be seen down at Ginger’s bar every Wednesday night after bowling, where they were routinely spoiled by Mrs. Miller who created special meals just for them, while they drank beer, sang to Ginger’s piano, played cards, and worried about the price of wheat…..
Marge was one of the original Dirty Shame Belles, performing annually in the Chautauqua at the old Rex Theatre on Main Street, and featured in the Montana Magazine. The tradition of The Belles is still alive today. She also loved to golf. Her last 18 years in Scobey revolved around owning and managing The Slipper. As was her way, she was involved in every aspect of the success of the supper club, and was known for her awesome prime rib.
In 1989 Marge moved to Helena, Mt. The first thing she did was go back to school and get her Associates Degree in Accounting. She worked in an accounting firm, prior to her employment at Blue Cross- Blue Shield of Mt for the remaining 17 years of her career. Marge instilled a strong, proud work ethic in her job and her life, and that has become a very big legacy for all of her kids and grandchildren. That was probably her most prized accomplishment.
Marge’s biggest love was being a member of the Helena chapter of The Sweet Adeline’s. She loved singing with that choir of women! In addition to performing, Marge was very involved in fund raising for the group. One of their bigger fund sources was the annual pizza fundraiser, which Marge was very involved in, based on her experience as a restaurateur. She was also very involved in the costume and accessory making for the choir. They went to many national competitions, which gave her the opportunity to do a lot of traveling.
Marge never lost her need to take care of people and help her family. She was a quiet but strong motivator and cheerleader in her grandchildren’s lives. She taught them about silent, strong, perseverance, and they will miss her very much.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents Wally and Ann, her sister Carol Ann Malone, brother Gerald Wolford, both of Scobey, and half-siblings Helen Lorenzini of Temple City, Ca. and Dean Wolford of Los Angeles.
Marge is survived by her husband Cliff, her 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and her sister Janet (Greg) Hanson of Eureka, Mt.
The family would like to thank Dr. Weiner and his staff, of The Cancer Treatment Center in Helena, who cared for Marge for the past 9 years. We also extend a special thank you to Marie Lavinder for her daily care in the last year of Mom’s life at Touchmark Retirement Center in Helena.

What an absolutely fine lady and friend Marge was. Can’t remember if I met her first thru work at BCBSMT or in Sweet Adelines – I kind of think Patsy and I talked her into joining Sweet Adelines at work. She was a great addition to the chorus. Her beautiful bass voice, great learning ethic, excellent rythm and quiet, thoughtful presence were much appreciated by all of us. She was an exemplary employee at work as well – one of the most dependable, smart and even-tempered people I’ve ever known. We had lots of laughs together too and although we haven’t seen each other for a long time, I will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with you, her family. – Kathe
