In Memory Of

Marjorie Jane Lain, age 93, of Helena, formerly of Pasadena, CA

July 17, 1922 – May 31, 2016

Marjorie (Margie) Jane Lain of Helena, MT, formerly Pasadena, CA

On the morning of May 31, 2016, Margie passed away peacefully of natural causes surrounded by family at Rosetta Assisted Living Facility in Helena, MT. She was 93 years old at the time of her passing.

Margie was born in Pasadena, California on July 17, 1922, and was the second daughter of Ethel Mae and Michael Morrall.

She grew up in Pasadena and attended Long Fellow Elementary, Marshall Junior High and Pasadena Junior College. Margie went on to attend UC Berkeley and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History, and continued her education earning her Library Science Degree.

Margie started her library career as the Circulation Librarian at Occidental College in Los Angeles. During WWII, she served as the parts librarian at Lockheed Air Craft in Burbank, cataloging the parts for the P-38.

Margie met her future husband Chuck at a dance, and found they shared many interests, including photography and world travel. They were married on April 11, 1954. She left her job with Occidental College to raise Lani and David, the two sons from her husband’s previous marriage.

Margie and Chuck took family vacations camping across the Western United States and Canadian Rockies in a trailer. They took ambitious hikes to the Tea houses in Lake Louise and the chalet in Lake O’Hara, Alberta, Canada. The family enjoyed the Tetons and on one trip spent an extra day hiking barely missing the devastating 7.3 magnitude earthquake at Hebgen Lake in Yellowstone in 1959.

Margie and Chuck went on to have three daughters, Wendy, Kathy and Linda. While raising their family, Margie and Chuck spent many enjoyable years traveling the world. They loved to socialize and held many dances at their house including square, polka and round dances.

She continued to remain active in outside activities as a member of the PEO, AAUW and PTA. Later she volunteered at the UNICEF store in Pasadena, bringing cultural awareness to those whose lives she touched. Margie also loved to share her adventures in travelling with friends and social gatherings, showing pictures and telling stories of her travels.

Margie loved her family and always took the time to have conversations with her children and grandchildren, and never spoke an unkind word about anyone. Her family will always remember her love and generosity as well her famous Chalupas and Sangria.

She loved animals having cats and dogs all of her life. Margie was an avid supporter of the ASPCA and World Wildlife Federation, along with other charities involving animals. She was an avid reader of mystery novels and enjoyed working word search and jigsaw puzzles.

Prior to her move to Montana, Margie was active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon for one term, and socializing with her many friends in the Clippers Club.

After relocating to Helena, she enjoyed visiting the National Parks, historic sights and towns in Montana. She continued to travel visiting her niece in California. She enjoyed a roadtrip to the midwest with her daughter and granddaughter, and a trip to Chicago to walk in Al Capone’s footsteps.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Ethel Morrall, husband Charles Lain, sister Dorothy Dodge and daughter Wendy Lain.

She is survived by daughters Kathy Ralston (husband Bob Ralston) and Linda Egebjerg; sons, Lani Lain (wife Nancy Lain) and David Lain; granddaughters, Laura Egebjerg, Jessica Fredrickson, Jennifer Leggoe, Kelly Lain, Kate Lain, Kimberly Lain, Andrea Lain, Angie Bonser-Lain, Aerena Lord, Abby Lain; grandsons, Jared Egebjerg, Michael Lain, Jeff Lain, Peter Lain; niece, Anne Dodge Ostby and nephews, Allan Dodge and Mark Dodge.

Margie’s family would like to thank the wonderful health care providers at Rosetta Assisted Living and Frontier Hospice in Helena, Montana for the outstanding care they provided her.
