In Memory Of

Marjorie L. Oyler, age 89, of Helena

December 27, 1933 – December 27, 2022

Marjorie L. Oyler, age 89, of Helena, passed away Dec. 27, 2022.

Marjorie Lee (Best) Oyler was born December 27, 1933 to Lee and Lyndall Best in Olive, Montana.

On December 27, 2022 “You Are My Sunshine” was heard in all of heaven as our mom joined our dad, Ronald Dean Oyler.

When mom and dad first met, our beautiful mom had caught the eye of another guy and dad (being a solutions guy) gave him a case of beer to stay away from her and they married on December 27, 1950 in Manhattan, Montana.

Dad worked for Ma Bell and his job took the family to 17 Montana towns landing in Conrad.  Mom began her career as a caregiver and she was a natural.  She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Conrad as a C N A until they relocated to Helena where she went to work for St. Peter’s Hospital.  After retirement mom and dad began the travels which took them all over the west from Arizona to Washington.  Summers were spent at Scott and Lisa’s where mom and dad enjoyed seeing all of their children and grandchildren.  Mom and dad were married 52 years.  After dad’s passing, mom moved to her little apartment on Ptarmigan Lane in Helena where she lived independently and enjoyed her life to the fullest until the very end.  We were so blessed she was able to do that. Mom was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed a potato every day.  “We owe it to our Irish relatives,” she would say.

After dad died, mom volunteered at St. Peter’s for many years.  She loved seeing the many people and made so many friends through her career and travels.  Mom’s fondest memories of her childhood were with her many cousins, aunts, and uncles.  Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Bonnie and Raynardine, her granddaughter Bhumata, and too many aunts, uncles, and cousins to name but each were so dear to her.

She will be missed by daughters Christy (Gary) Erickson, Pam (David) Peck, Linda Oyler-LaFournaise, Katie (Randy) Purdom, and Scott (Lisa) Oyler and their beloved families.  Mom was blessed with 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.  Mom enjoyed passing on the gift of her culinary delights and her cherished family memories with her children and grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at Retz Funeral Home on 2:00 p.m. on January 28, 2023.  Memorial gifts are welcome to the Macular Degeneration Society or your choice of charities.

As mom was fond of saying, “bye, bye for now.”

Marj was a delight to work with many years ago on medical floor at St. Peter’s. She was a tireless worker, with a twinkle in her eye, she was a cheerful can do person!
May all the goodness she gave to others come back to all of you at this time.
    Rest well Marj

Marg & Ron raised more kids than anyone can imagine. Nights singing and playing instruments by the Oyler campfire to all of us high school friends crammed into Marg’s kitchen are still some of my fondest memories. Her door was always open. Each one of us was always greeted with a smile. She patiently lent me her ear assisting in navigating those tumultuous teen years. She even surprised me with a special seat she designed & built so I could sit up front in Scott’s jeep. How did she have the time or energy? Many a Friday night she would pack up a couple t-bones with fresh mushrooms and send us three up the mountain. How dumb were we that that precious woman forfeited her dinners just in order to get a little quiet time to herself? I learned alot from you Marjorie & I know you will be there to open the door for us again. Blessings to your daughters, Scott & the whole clan.
