Martha Jo ‘Marty Ramlo, RN’ Ramlo, 63, of Helena, died from complications of C.R.E.S.T. Syndrome on Sunday, November 27th, 2011 at home.
She was born March 29, 1948 in Conrad to Burke and Martha Baumann. She was educated in Brady and graduated from Brady High School in 1966. She then attended Montana State University, graduating with her BSN in 1970. On September 16, 1972 she married Jay Ramlo in Conrad.
She started a 38 year career at St. Peter’s Hospital. Her career at St. Peter’s included the OB Floor, Surgical Floor, Emergency Room and Same Day Services. Marty was especially proud of her advanced certifications in Emergency Care and Endoscopy Care. She retired in March 2008.
She took great pleasure in her family, dogs, and the family cabin near Libby, and the many patients who she cared for.
She is survived by her husband, Jay of Helena; two sons, Andrew of Bozeman and Peter of Missoula; mother, Martha Baumann of Conrad; sister, Chris (Hal) Stashi of Texas; and brothers, Clark (Diane) of North Dakota and Roy (Paula) of Brady.
Paraphrasing Teddy Roosevelt: “The credit belongs to the woman who is actually in the arena, who strives valiantly, who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotion, and spends herself in worthy causes. Who at best, knows the triumph of high achievement and who, at worst, if she fails, fails while daring greatly so that her place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat.”
Funeral services celebrating Marty’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 3rd at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Avenue. Burial will be at Forestvale Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of St. Peter’s 2475 Broadway Street Helena, Montana 59601 or to The Montana Hope Project, P.O. Box 5927, Helena, MT 59604. Dearest Jay and family,
Our deepest sympathy to you and your family. We truly will miss Marty as you and she became part of our family. She took the greatest care of my family in the hospital in same day surgery. Her skill and her genuine care of her patients were unmatched.
Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter´s or sculptor´s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God´s spirit? It is one of the Fine Arts: I had almost said, the finest of Fine Arts. by Florence Nightingale
