On June 25th, 2018, Mary Elizabeth (Fitzsimmons) Sanford was called home to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mary was born in Harlem, Montana on September 10, 1929 to Irving and Lucy Fitzsimmons. She grew up on the family ranch in Savoy, Montana where she was a true cowgirl; riding horses and helping her Father with the cattle. After graduating high school, she went to work at the McNamara ranch, where she met her husband, Thomas Sanford. They were married on October 10th, 1947 in Havre, MT.
After spending five years working on the ranch, her husband, Tom, became a highway patrolman for the state of Montana. They eventually ended up in Polson where they raised their four children. After retiring, they moved to Helena in 1993.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Lucy and she was the last remaining Fitzsimmons sibling. She was also preceded by her husband, Thomas and her son, Thomas E. and one very special great grandchild, Calliope.
She is survived by her children, Yvonne (Charles) Brooke of Helena, Randy ( Stephanie) Sanford of Wenatchee, WA and Brian (Tammy) Sanford of Hillsboro, OR and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She had a wonderful life full of adventure, love, laughter and the joy of the Lord in her heart. She will be missed so much by all her family, where she will always have a very special place in their hearts. She touched so many people throughout her life and was always everyone’s special friend.
There will be a graveside service for family at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 at Fort Harrison followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church, located at 210 Sierra Road West, Helena, MT 59602.
