Mary Ellen (Dupuis) Cooney
Mary Ellen was born at home in the Boulder Valley to Delia Caron and Adelord Dupuis on April 19, 1924. She was the 9th of 10 children. She passed away at Touchmark of natural causes on September 21, 2022.
Mary Ellen attended grade school in Whitehall. The family moved to Helena in 1938. She graduated from Helena High School in 1942.
Following graduation, Mary Ellen went to work at First National Bank and remained employed for 29 years.
In 1970 she met Frank James Cooney on a blind date. Six months later they were married.
During her time on the ranch, she enjoyed time in the mountains at Sheep Camp. She took great interest in the herders from Peru. Together she and Frank travelled to many places, buying and selling sheep. They also traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, and Ireland. They were inseparable.
Following Franks retirement in 2000, they moved to Helena. In 2018 they moved into Touchmark.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her parents, and her siblings, Cecelia Kelsh, Paul Phillip (13 days), Paul Eugene, Edward Phillip, Esther Fritz, Leora (6 months) Inez Kellogg, Lorraine Neice, Antionette Copenhaver, and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews who dearly loved her, Edgar Kelsh, Diane Humphrey, Celie (Dave) Anderson of Helena, Eddie Lou (Dean) Stanchfield, Dennis (Helen) Dupuis, Russell Dupuis, Vicki (Dan) Heckford, Delia Ann Lloyd, Ken Kellogg, Mark Copenhaver, Marnie Dupruis, Frank’s niece, Sue (Curt) Chisholm, and nephew, JP Cooney III (Brittany).
A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home. Following the service, a graveside service will be held across the street at Resurrection Cemetery. Following the burial, a Reception will be held back at the funeral home in the Social Hall.
Donations can be made in Mary Ellen’s name to the donor’s choice, Food Share, or PBS.
The family would like to thank the staff at Touchmark, especially Billie, the hospice volunteers, Deacon Bob Fishman, and the ladies from St. Mary’s Church.
The service will be broadcasted live and will open 15 min. prior to the 11:00 Service start time.
