Mary Broadhurst’s life journey came to a close on November 17th, 2024 in Helena, Montana. She was formerly from Denver, Colorado, and moved to Helena, MT in 2022 to be closer to family when she couldn’t live alone in her beloved home any longer. Mary attended East High School, Colorado university and Denver University, graduating with a masters degree in Library Science.
Mary was part of the Greatest Generation. She was the matriarch of her family, a housewife, a volunteer, a librarian, an embroiderer, a story teller. She became a writer at the age of 87 years old, and was proud of having her stories published. Mary loved each of her children and grandchildren uniquely, making them all know they had a special connection with her. She was a collector of friends, young and old. She cared about others and wanted to hear about their lives, their stories. Her home was a welcoming place full of family dinners. Mary had a group of friends she had known her whole life. They were together in book club, Delta Gamma, Canaan Friends group, and Salvation Army Doll Tea fundraisers. Mary and her mother “Nana” and twin sister Alice hosted many parties at their family cabin in Evergreen, Colorado. Mary was active in the Episcopal Church throughout her life.
Mary was strong, surviving many hardships in her life from polio and deafness to the deaths of her husband and twin sister. She had a happy countenance and always found the strength to move forward in her life. She had faith in God and relied on it throughout her life. She was a prayer warrior for her family. We thank all of those helpers in her life who supported her living alone at home and then living with their assistance at Touchmark. Those helpers who helped her recover from her injury and stay mobile and those who visited her weekly with interesting stories and activities, bringing her chocolate and hearing her life story. You all made her life richer. We are eternally grateful. Mary was welcomed to heaven by her husband, Henry Broadhurst,Sr, parents Mary Louise and Alvie Grills, twin sister Alice Wilson, infant brother William, long ago friend Bob Hanson, and Mary’s many dear friends who have been waiting for her.
Mary is survived by her family; son Henry Broadhurst, Jr ( Jan), daughter Ann White ( Emmett), daughter Judy Carrigan (Chris). Grandchildren Matthew Smith ( Aya), Lucas Broadhurst (Paula), and Emilia Ealom (Rich), Patrick White ( Bridget), Hillary Lupo (Michael), Austin White (Mark), Sarah Carrigan (Chad), Katie Carrigan, Benjamin Bisland (Ellie) , Matthew Bisland. Also seven wonderful Great-grandchildren. She is also survived by the Fonda families and the Wilson families.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held in June at Evergreen Lake Pavillion in Evergreen, Colorado. There will be a private family burial at Fairmount Cemetery. Denver or Helena’s Salvation Army was close to mom’s heart if you choose to give.
