Mary Goodman after living 80 years died October 1, 2014 from a painless cerebral hemorrhage; she was the daughter of Margaret and Arthur Link. Most of her childhood was spent joyfully in the mountains surrounding Grand Island, Colorado. Mary graduated high school with honors and continued her education by attending college in Fort Collins, Colorado where she majored in music and minored in English, she married Gib Goodman her senior year and together they had 3 children. In 1966 they moved to Helena, MT. To help make ends meet she gave piano lessons and was a substitute teacher. On weekends she passed down her love for the mountains by taking her children and their friends skiing to the Bridger Bowl ski area.
When Mary and Gib divorced in 1974 she taught English full time at Capital High School in Helena, MT. During the summer months she traveled all over the world, accompanied many times by one or more of her dear friends.
Mary is survived by her sister Dorothy Leeds, three children Tim Goodman, Sharon Goodman Stevens, Tom Goodman, six grandchildren Zack Stevens, Ty Stevens, Seth Stevens, Gib Goodman Jr., Jessica Goodman, and Jason Goodman and one great granddaughter Avery Goodman. Mary was unselfish in her love for her family. She will continue to be an inspiration to us all. We will miss her dearly

My sincere condolences to all of Mary’s family members. I taught English at CHS with Mary for many years. She made teaching look easy with her ready smile and upbeat personality. I always felt like she enjoyed life and people, especially high school kids. And she took an interest in the world – traveling and visiting new places. I especially remember her telling me about her trips to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival – she loved the plays! I hope you take some solace in knowing that she brightened many lives beyond her beloved family. I will miss her.
Sincerely, Jeanne
