Mavis L. Rogers passed away peacefully in Helena, Montana, on November 13, 2016.
Marvelous Mavis, as she was known to family, was born to Walter and Marion (Niles) Melin on November 5, 1931 in Livingston, Montana. She was raised on a ranch in Paradise Valley which was the place she loved the most and always called home. She graduated from Park County High School in 1948 at the age of 16. She married the love of her life, Clinton A. Rogers, on February 6, 1949 at the Pine Creek Methodist Church in Paradise Valley. They had two daughters, Clinda and Jody.
They enjoyed married life until Clinton s death in 2008 just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. Mavis was very proud of her 34 years as a medical receptionist for the Park Clinic in Livingston. She was dearly loved by the doctors and staff there. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Emigrant, Montana.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton; her parents, Walter and Marion; her step-father, Scott Melin; brothers, George Melin and John Melin; and a sister, Dorothy Stermitz. She is survived by her daughters, Clinda (J.R.) Feucht, and Jody (John) Doubek; and 4 grandchildren, Andrew Doubek, Jacob (Brittany) Doubek, Anna (Shane) Larson and Mandi (Jordan) Fisher; as well as 5 great-grandchildren, Kate, Haddie, Mavryk, Jett and Beau. She is also survived by her brother, David (Barbara) Melin and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mavis had a very dry sense of humor and could dish out the jokes as well as take them. She loved her grandchildren and probably especially her great-grandchildren. Her wit and her humor will be missed by her family and the great number of friends that she had.
Services will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Livingston, Montana, on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
Mavis’ family wishes to thank the loving staff at the Legacy.

Clinda and Jody, So sorry for the loss of your mom. My memories of her and our dad are great. Camping, coming to your house on 7th?, your giant German shepherd dog and how your mom would wash him in tomato juice! Your mom’s laugh was infectious and I remember she was always laughing around the camp fire. Keep those memories in your heart.

Kelly Stermitz-Bell says
I’m so grateful that I was counted among one of the friends and family in Mavis’ circle. I wish I had a nickel for every cup of coffee shared with her and Clinton around my in-laws table. Even after my late husband passed Mavis kept in touch with me and always made me feel like one of the family even though I was the daughter in-law of her late sister Dorothy. Her sense of humor is unparalleled and I will always smile when I think of her. What a joyful legacy she has left behind, to always be able to make people laugh. Love ya Mavis!

I have known Mavis most of my life. She used to come stay with us when she was in highschool because she was my sisters best friend – Helen Mercer Pavey. I’m sure you remember the Paveys. Cecil recently passed away at 89. Helen died of cancer in 2000. When you lived on North 3rd I lived a block away on North 2nd and still live there. I am now in AZ for the winter and will not be able to attend the funeral so farewell Mavis. Many many members!!

Dear Clinda and Jody and families,
I was very sad to learn of your mom’s passing but I knew she had been struggling. I had hoped to visit her now that we have moved to the Helena area but it wasn’t meant to be. I remember the sleep overs at your home in Livingston when I was in high school and will never forget the laughter and stories.
I know you will miss her deeply because she was a terrific mom, grandmother, and friend. May all the wonderful memories give you comfort and peace in your time of grief. With loving memories, Andrea

Mavis always seemed glad to see anyone she knew. She always was sweet, and never complained. I hope she knew how much she was loved.
