In Memory Of

Michael “Doc” McClanahan, age 60, of Lincoln

July 13, 1957 – September 15, 2017

Michael Steven “Doc” McClanahan 60, of Lincoln, Montana, died September 15, 2017.

Michael was born July 13, 1957, in Chico, California, to Herbert and Arleen (Wilson) McClanahan.

Michael spent his senior year in high school as a foreign exchange student in Australia, which he spoke of with many fond memories.  Doc had a sense of adventure spending time in Denali, Alaska, and living in California, Oregon, and Montana, along with his time in Australia.

He attended paramedic school in Chico, California, and went on to work in that field for many years. He worked as a paramedic in Idaho and California.   To say that Doc was a computer enthusiast is a serious understatement. He enjoyed engaging people in subjects involving Apple Computers, System Security and other related topics. Doc was a great source of experience and knowledge.  There were no short discussions with Doc about Mac computers, or any Apple products. His home was like an Apple museum.

Doc had many interests in his life they included: biking, hiking, horseback riding, camping, skiing, photography, traveling and enjoying ATV rides.  Some of his favorite camping places were near Fort Bragg, California, Yellowstone National Park, Moab Utah, and Yosemite California.  People who knew Doc could see the love he had for animals, and especially his dog Harley, evidenced by his auto license.  As a young man he was an avid 4-H member raising both pigs and angus cattle.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a member of the Branch in Lincoln, Montana.  With his knowledge and experiences he was able to contribute to many different subjects of daily living and general preparedness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Arleen, as well as his brother, Patrick.  Doc is survived by his sister, Kathy; his brother, Jack; and his nephew, Calvin Longacre.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life Friday September 29 from 1:00-2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1610 East 6th Avenue Helena Montana.

Doc was a very good friend on our Inspire/Sarcoidosis web site and support group. He was funny and knowledgeable and had a big heart. He was also my friend on Facebook. Thank you to Kathy for allowing us to know about his passing and his memorial service. We deeply appreciate it. Condolences to all of his family and friends.

My husband and I, too, enjoyed Doc’s contributions to the Inspire/Sarcoidosis forum. His insights and humor were greatly appreciated. Inspire is a place for honesty and comfort and sometimes making light in the face of serious topics. Doc seemed to have a full grasp on how to use that forum to bring comfort to others and to relieve some of his own fears and anxieties. His presence was always appreciated and will be greatly missed. Peace and light to you, Doc. Many thanks for your wonderful contributions in this life.

Rest in peace, Doc. Your kind words have comforted & inspired so many suffering souls… may you now enjoy the love, peace & rest you so deserve. My love & prayers are with you & your family. May you & Hallie have a happy reunion someday on Rainbow Bridge. Live long & prosper in heaven, kind soul.

There was something very special that drew people to this wonderful man. He was truly engaged in life and I was so glad that I had the opportunity to connect with Doc on the Inspire/Sarcoidosis forum. Even though he was going thru many tough challenges (emotionally and physically) particularly when nearing the end, he always seemed to find time to support others and his sense of humour would also come thru. I am so glad that your suffering is over and may you rest in peace. God Bless.
