Michael E. “Duke” Barrett passed away on August 27, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital from Leukemia. Duke was born on May 10, 1943 in Helena, Montana and resided in Jefferson City.
Services will be held at Anderson Stevenson and Wilke Funeral Home on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 1:00 o’clock p.m.
He attended schools throughout Montana but eventually settled in Helena, Montana where he worked for 32 years with Asarco. He was the foreman of the D&L Department. After retiring from Asarco he worked at the Great Northern Hotel in downtown Helena.
He married Gloria Erickson on May 22, 1964. This past May they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. There marriage served as an example about the value of love and loyalty. They raised 2 daughters.
He enjoyed animals, the outdoors and four-wheeling with his friends. He also enjoyed taking road trips and camping. He was an awesome cook and enjoyed making family feast along with Gloria for the Holidays. He was the long time cook at the local volunteer fire department steak fry. He enjoyed mowing the lawn and harvesting the large gardens he and Gloria would plant.
Duke had a great sense of humor and he brought years of laughter and joy when in his presence. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa. His passing has left a major void in the lives of his family that can never be filled. Our only consolation lies in knowing that he is no longer in pain and has joined those who preceded him in death and who loved him as much as those left behind. He will be missed beyond words.
He was preceded in death by his sister Gloria Stanghill, mother Jean Barrett, brother Billy Barrett and father William Barrett Sr.
He survived by his wife Gloria, daughter Brenda (Shawn) Paulsen, Nika (Mike) Ebert, granddaughter Kayla (Lyndon) Johnson, grandson Austyn Paulsen (fiancée Loretta Vossler), great grandsons Emmett Johnson and Marshall Johnson and his brother Sam.
The family would like to express their appreciation for Dr. Thomas Weiner and his staff of nurses at the Cancer Treatment Center as well as the Oncology floor nurses at St. Peter’s as they all provided him with amazing care and support.
A service celebrating Duke’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home. The family suggest donations be sent in care of Gloria Barrett at Montana City Bank, 9 Bankers Lane, Clancy, MT 59634 to assist with the cost of final services.

I am so sorry to hear of Dukes passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Duke when I worked at Hydrometrics in the East Helena office. He was always a very kind man and was friendly to all. He loved life and enjoyed every day to its fullest. I pray that his family and friends can take some comfort in knowing Duke is in Heaven and no longer in any pain. His memories will fill your hearts until you meet again in Heaven. Nothing can take away the grief or pain you are feeling except for time and Gods healing power. I pray that you lean on God and let him carry and comfort you. In time you will see Duke again in Heaven. RIP Duke. You will be missed by so many. Prayers for all
