Myrtle M. Fowler died Nov. 30, 2020 of natural causes at her home at the Touchmark in Helena. She was born in Helena March 30, 1927 to Regina (Wahl) and Charles C. Barbour and lived in New Jersey and Nevada as a child, graduating from Basic High School in Henderson Nevada in 1945. Soon after she returned to Helena and met her husband, Ivan S. Fowler at the telephone company where they both worked. They were married Aug. 15, 1952 in Helena’s St. John’s Lutheran Church and had two children, daughter Gloria and son Arthur. In 1961 they moved to Denver, Colorado, where they remained until Ivan retired and he and Myrtle moved back to Helena.
Myrtle was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and treasured her faith and church associations very much. She was an accomplished china painter, artist and crafter and created a beautiful home. In later years she was devoted to her friends at Touchmark and enjoyed speeding down the corridors in her power wheelchair.
Myrtle is survived by her daughter Gloria Van Spanckeren (Rein), son Arthur Fowler (Karina), grandson Charles A. Fowler, and many cousins and extended family in the local area.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan in 2001.

Gloria Van Spanckeren says
This being 2020 and the era of coronavirus, Myrtle’s farewell was not as she imagined. We regret that there will be no public funeral to honor her life with us. She would want to express her love and gratitude to all of her friends and relatives as she bids us farewell.
Myrtle and her family are particularly grateful to those from Touchmark and St. Peter’s Hospice who cared for her. The family also wishes to thank the members of her church that loved her and made a graveside service possible, all of Myrtle’s friends and relatives who attended, the Vivrette cousins for the invaluable support they provided on short notice, and the professionals at Retz and Sunset Memorial for their kindness and efficiency.
Bye Mom! ❤❤❤

Myrtle was a cherished member of our family for many long years. There are many memories but most of all I will always remember how talented Myrtle was-painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, everyone was gifted many of her beautiful crafts! Also, her love for her many kitties over probably, her entire life and let’s not forget some pretty tasty meals she could put together for her great picnics in her big back yard! We will miss her, but take comfort that she is finally reunited with Ivan, her wonderful, sweet husband. Lovingly, her cousin, Sue Vivrette

Myrtle was a member of the Montana China Painting Art Association and the Helena China Painters group for many years. She shared her talents with others and we enjoyed her friendship. I have a small tile she painted that hangs in my kitchen so I think of her often.
