In Memory Of

Norma Jean Anderson, age 92, of Helena

March 25, 1927 – November 15, 2018

Norma Jean (Gottula) Anderson

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Norma Jean (Gottula) Anderson passed away on November 15, 2018 of natural causes. Norma was born March 25, 1927 in Pawnee City, Nebraska to Louis and Hattie Gottula.  She lived in Nebraska until she graduated from high school in 1944.  The family then moved to Redwood City, California where Norma worked for Bank of America as a bookkeeper and teller.

Norma met her husband George Anderson (who preceded her in death) at the bank while he was attending Stanford University.  They married on September 1, 1946.  After living in Butte, Montana for three years, they moved to Helena, Montana where George started Anderson and ZurMuehlen Accounting. Norma and George took great pleasure from traveling the country and the world with the AICPA. They have many life-long friends from their involvement in accountancy.

Norma volunteered at a number of groups in Helena, the Old Governors Mansion, the Holter Museum, the Montana Historical Society and was very involved in many church activities at First Lutheran Church including teaching Sunday school and pre-conformation classes. She also served on the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League board. She loved her pottery classes at the Archie Bray Foundation and was an accomplished potter. After retirement she and George spent half the year in Sun City West, Arizona where she was involved in church work and met many new friends.

Norma is survived by three adult children: David, Debi (Harold), and Dick (Margaret), grandchildren – Aaron, Jason, Jessica, Chance, Rivers, Tyler, Conner, and Parker and also eight great grandchildren.

There will be a family only private service at a later time when all of the grandchildren and great grandchildren can attend. Norma would have appreciated the reunion.

In lieu of flowers, Norma would have appreciated contributions in her name to either the First Lutheran Church, 2231 E. Broadway St., Helena, MT 59601 or the Archie Bray Foundation, 2915 Country Club Ave, Helena, MT 59602. Please visit below to offer the family a condolence or to share a memory Norma.

    David, Debi, and Dick,

I am so sorry to hear of your Motherks passing. She was my last living Godparent. She and George were among my Mother and Father’s best friends. (Lelia and Art Connick). I will miss our “run-in’s” in Helena. She was sharp as a wit and was always there for me during my losses. Her’s was a life worth living and your Family is blessed to have had Norma Jean with you for her run on Earth! Condolences as well as my love for all the Family.

Norma always had a smile for me when I was walking through to visit my folks at Touchmark. So many stories behind the smiles,,,and she seems as if she appreciated all the amazing things that are a part of our Helena community. I will miss her….I am sorry for your loss.
