In Memory Of

Norman W. Harju, age 94, of Helena

September 5, 1930 – June 10, 2025

Norman Harju, aged 94, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, leaving behind a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories. Born on September 5, 1930, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Norman lived a life that touched the hearts of many and left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

In 1956, Norman married Barbara (Sue) in a beautiful ceremony held in her parents’ garden at Ryan Dam near Great Falls, MT. He had met Sue while working with her father, Ole Rogne, with Montana Power. Together, he and Sue raised three children: Charlene “Charlie,” Daniel and Cheryl. Sue sadly passed away in 1992, but their years together were filled with adventures throughout Montana.

A hardworking man, Norman retired in 1992 after a career in the power and telephone industry. In retirement, he found companionship once again and married Paula Hansen in 1996. The two shared many happy years together until Paula’s passing in 2007 in Helena, Montana.

Norman carried on with resilience, finding joy and purpose in his work as a school bus driver for First Student. It was during that time that he met Lois Stancin, with whom he shared a loving relationship. The couple lived together in the North Valley for many years. In 2022, they moved to Renaissance Assisted Living. Lois passed later that same year.

Throughout his life, Norman was a man of quiet strength and enduring love. He was known for his curiosity and kindness, plus the ability to build or fix anything. He enjoyed gardening and fishing throughout his life. He cherished his children and was welcomed by Lois’s children and valued the relationship he built with those he loved, continuing to inspire those fortunate enough to know him.

He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the warmth and love he brought to this world.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and his son Daniel.

No services are planned; Norm’s cremains will be scattered at several of his favorite places. Please visit aswfuneralhome.com to share condolences in memory of Norman.
