In Memory Of

Patrick Dominic Ceglio age 89 of Helena

March 17, 1932 – March 14, 2022

Patrick Dominic Ceglio, passed away in Helena, Montana on Monday, March 14, 2022, just a few days short of his 90th birthday.

Patrick was born March 17, 1932, in Toledo, OH, the son of Joseph Ceglio, Sr. and Hattie (Harriett Koralewski) Ceglio. His early years were spent in the shadows of his father’s bakery, which most certainly sparked his lifelong love for baked goods.

Patrick attended St. Michael’s Elementary School and graduated from Woodward High School, Toledo OH, in 1951. He enjoyed growing up in the North End with lifelong friends Don Dorner and Gerry Menden.

Patrick was previously married to Jeanette (Brancheau) Ceglio and together they had four children – Chris, Tony, Patty, and Anne.

Patrick’s first job was bussing tables at Bud and Luke’s Cafeteria. He went on to work for the Toledo Water Department, Shrader Tire and Oil, and The Sunset House. He found his calling as an Airplane Sheetmetal Mechanic at Toledo Express Airport in Toledo OH, and for Kalitta Air at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti MI. After “retiring”, he moved out West and worked seasonally at the historic Old Faithful Inn and Lodge and the Gardiner Warehouse in Yellowstone National Park, and later at the Gardiner Market in Gardiner MT.

Patrick was known for lighting up a room and making people laugh. He had an undying love for his family and friends. His passion for airplanes, reading, woodworking, Pepsi, Chicken Paprikash and Jelly Filled Donuts was second to none. He enjoyed league bowling on the Blanchard Brother’s Funeral Home Team for many years, and once appeared on the “Bowling For Dollars” TV show in Toledo. Many of you may even be lucky enough to have earned a handmade Pat‘s Crafts treasure. He constructed and tended to a “Little Free Library” in Gardiner MT, which is being restored in his memory. He will be missed greatly by all who have known him, as he truly “never met a stranger”.

Though born on St Patrick’s Day, he didn’t have an Irish bone in his body, except on the many birthdays spent at OB’s Bar on Tremainsville Avenue in Toledo and the countless “dress in green from head to toe” events through years. His Italian and Polish roots ran deep, sharing his beloved Stanley’s Kielbasa across the miles with many of his Montana friends.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Ralph B. Ceglio, Dominick A. Ceglio, Joseph A. Ceglio, Rose K. (Ceglio) Navis, Raymond Ceglio, and former wife Jeanette M. (Brancheau) Ceglio. Patrick is survived by his sons Christopher Ceglio, Toledo OH and Anthony (Lezlie) Ceglio, Indianapolis IN, daughters Patricia Ceglio (Tom Peterson), Helena MT, and Anne (George) Schaeffer, New York NY as well as 6 grandchildren; Sarah

(Marcus) Hamlin, Emily Bishoff, Katherine Ceglio, George Henry Schaeffer IV, Nicholas Ceglio, and Daniel Ceglio, and two great grandchildren, Hattie, and Hendrix Hamlin. His Goddaughter, Suzanne (Reynolds) Rupp and many other nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.

In memory of Patrick, the family welcomes you to make a donation to the Gardiner Food Pantry, PO Box 459, Gardiner, MT 59030.

Me and my wife loved that old man. We only knew him for the last 10 years or so of his life. I worked on his truck (which he gave me) when he got ran into.If I remember right I put a left fender and hood on it, after I painted them red, and also put brake pads on it a couple times. He was a great guy and we will miss him a lot.
He made me a coffee table (which I still have) and a plaque he gave me. He always had a bunch of wood he treasured and he especially liked cedar. He made me some leaves and fishes out of it. He also told me a lot of stories about working for Connie Kalitta who was an early race car guy. He told me once he also met John Wayne, when he came out to the airport to meet up with Kalitta.

Patrick is a tough act to follow! There were so many good times down at the coffee shop with him! We never walked away not laughing about some joke or just the comical conversations we had together. It was fun to look out the window of the coffee shop and see Patrick flying his kite. He was full of life! Patrick would tell stories of his youth playing football, some hubcap stories, and something about telling the priest that his father’s wine was much better than the church’s! He’s a special kind of guy!

I have fond childhood memories of the laughter that Pat always brought to our house when he would visit my parents. Amazing that those North Toledo boys, Pat, Don and Dad, snagged those beautiful Mercy nurses. It is so wonderful that a great grand daughter has Pat’s mother’s name. Peace and love to all of you Ceglio “kids” as you join us Menden kids in orphans club now in your 50’s and 60’s.

I remember Pat from coming into Red Well’s Roast Beef in West Toledo, has to be 40 years ago! I worked there as a teenager and young adult briefly and my mom worked there for almost 50 years so she knew him very well. He lived close by and always came in with a smile on his face and a story to tell. I remember him being a great family man, always talking about his wife & kids. He was a super nice guy and brightened everyone’s day when he came around. Sounds like his retirement years were interesting and filled with hobbies. RIP Pat, I know you will be missed but I also know you are with the Lord. You were a good, honest man.

    Tony/Lezlie, Chris and Ceglio family:
Condolences at this sad time. What a great guy.
I believe there’s a beautiful wooden image of Montana hanging from the rafters in the back room of Stanley’s.
Hope he’s enjoying some kielbasa and a “piwo” or two in heaven, with a celestial polka!
All the best from Toledo to you and your families.

Sending out my love, prayers, and deepest sympathies to the Ceglio family. I remember him coming over to visit on a holiday be it thanksgiving or Christmas. Uncle Pat would completely light up room with one hilarious joke after another. He would have everyone laughing till it hurt. He was a great man with such a huge heart. He will be deeply missed.

Pat was one of a kind and a pleasure to be with. We worked endless hours together (88-94) at Kalitta’s resurrecting broken or damaged aircraft engine cowlings. Pat kept the spirits high (with rumors of days off) when the day (or weekend) would never seem to end. I do recall that donuts were involved. He was friends with everybody and was always laughing no matter how many 12 hr days or 7 day weeks we worked. He was a great man that I know will be missed. RIP Pat.

I just discovered Patrick’s obit. Trying to piece together our genealogy. If I’d known he lived in Helena, I would have introduced myself (moved to Great Falls 5 years ago)! I believe my paternal grandmother, Clementina (from Arpaia), might be his dad’s older sister. My brother moved to Missoula decades ago.
