Richard (Dick) Albert Cary passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Sunday July 26. Dick was born in Havre on Sept. 11, 1940 to Freda Mae and Cecil Barton. When he was 3 years old his mother married William D. Cary. He grew up in Helena where he attended Central and Helena High School, after which he spent 3 years in the Army, stationed in Germany.
After returning to Helena, Dick worked at United Rentals. In 1975, he married Vickie Jo Olmstead, they had three children, Rich, Ryan, and Robin. Not long after they married, he and his uncle Bill Anders purchased Capital Music. After selling the business in 2000 he realized that he wasn’t ready to retire and he soon found himself the owner of the Gold Bar and Western Bar in downtown Helena.
When not working, Dick enjoyed fishing, photography, building anything, spending time at his cabin, spending time with his family, cars, coin collecting, going 4-wheeling with his classmates (also known as the Rough Riders), socializing, and good food.
Dick is survived by wife Vickie, sons Rich (Sue) Cary, Ryan Cary, daughters Robin (Craig) Kockler, Tina Boswell, sisters Stavona Perkins, Claudene (Steve) Carkeek, and Wanda (Bill) Forbes, uncle Jerry (Joan) Anders, aunts Doris Anders, Audrey Anders, and Grace Anders McCullough, numerous cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren.
Dick is preceded in death by his mother, father, daughter Claudine Lyons, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
There will be a celebration of his life Saturday Aug. 1st from 2-6 pm at the Cary residence, 3108 Broadwater Ave.
For those who would like to pay their respects at the Gold Bar, the family will be at the Bar for a small celebration at 6:30 pm.
We would like to suggest memorials be sent to: American Diabetes Association or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Well cousin….I didn’t realize when I saw you a few months ago at the Fox Ridge that it would be our last farewell. I’m so glad that we were able to have a nice conversation. I know that you have not been well for a while, so I know that you are resting comfortably in the hands of our Lord while sharing some memories with those that have gone before. It’s always hard to tell a family member goodbye, but it is even harder when it is a cousin that you treasured since the day you were born. Stevie, sorry for your loss. Your brother was a great guy. I met him when I was a young kid working at Ted’s Drive-In. He came in every day for coffee. The day Dick told us we could get used 45RPM records cheap at Capital made our day.
