In Memory Of

Richard “Rick” Longmire, age 71 of Elliston

August 20, 1946 – July 13, 2018

Rick was born August 20th 1946 in Helena, MT.  He died Friday, July 13, 2018 at his home in Elliston. He and his siblings were raised on 3rd street by their parents, Mary Jane and Gilbert Longmire Sr.

Rick served in the U.S. Army from January 1964 to December 1966. During this time Rick earned his GED.

Rick worked at RAY-D-ANT cleaners with his mother Mary Jane after his discharge. He worked various jobs before beginning his career with the ASARCO Smelter in 1976 until its closing.  Upon his retirement he went to work for Rocky Mountain Healthcare for a short time before becoming boiler operator for the Elliston School District. He retired permanently in September 2007.

In October 1969 he married Christina (Tina) Wickersheim. From this marriage 2 daughters were born.

In 1992 Rick and Tina found their paradise in Elliston, MT and built their dream home in 1999. Many wonderful parties ensued at the “Happy Hut”.  His repertoire of jokes was legendary!  Rick enjoyed hunting and fishing until he bought his property at which time the animals became his pets.  He started snowmobiling later in life and enjoyed his many snowmobile trips with his friends and extended family always accompanied by a bottle of Tums!  Rick was an avid motor bike rider in his younger days graduating to a trike which he enjoyed on his trips to the bike rally in Sturgis. Rick was an amazing motorcycle mechanic working on his own bikes as well as friends’.

Rick was broken hearted when he lost his 4-legged companions BJ and Grace but found comfort in his miniature companion Kennedy.

He is preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Mary Jane Longmire, infant daughter Tamarette, and sisters Anna and Julie. He is survived by his loving wife Tina, daughter Shauna Longmire, brother Gilbert Longmire Jr. (Alma Lea), sisters Patty (Doug) Donaldson and Donna (Gary) Schwarz.  He is also survived by his step mother Clara Longmire, step brothers and sisters in the Wagner family, an uncle, aunts, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

We would like to thank the Elliston/Avon Response Team for their heroic efforts as well as the Powell County Sheriff’s Department for their support. A thank you to Dr. Kiley Kirksey for her care.

In lieu of flowers please send a donation to your local volunteer rescue unit or donor’s choice. A service with military honors to celebrate Rick’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Rick is one of the first friends I can remember. Life on Third St. in like 1950. I remember him as we grew up roaming the south hills and all the old mines we could find. Rick was good man, always knew where you stood with him and that if he said he’d do something ……… it was done right. Prayers to Tina and his family. Rick & Beth Cottingham

Tina & Shauna, prayers for both of you, especially during these sad times, may time help ease the loss. Ricky & I met in school; Bill & Ricky worked together at Valley. Shortly after that a friendship of 4 started…. Which developed into the camping lives and adventures of the Longmires/Roberts …. As Bill & I have look back, we have visited so many of our camping memories ~ all the memories of the time our families shared, watching the kids grow up, learn about water skiing, roasted marshmallows & let’s not forget all the fishing trips Bill & Rick shared. So very many, many precious memories… ~ Ricky may you rest in peace dear friend & camping bud… you are dearly missed by so many…

Tina and Shauna, my Prayers are with you.
Rick was not only my best friend but like a
brother. We had a lot of fun growing up next door to each other. When like got boring Rick
could always come up with something to do.
I will always have his memory in my heart.

Sorry I missed the service, my dad Gary (Birdman) made it and told me about it, sounded like a great service. Rick invited us to his place on the Little Blackfoot when I was younger and I’ll always remember his big smile and laugh! I’ll never forget pulling Brookies out of the creek on his gem of a property and cooking up filleted perch we caught out of Nevada creek reservoir with Gil and Levi. Thanks for the fond memories Rick, my heart goes out to the whole family.
