Bob passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on November 27, 2023. He was 73 years old.
Bob was born and raised in Helena and graduated from Helena High School in 1968. He also attended Montana State University for a period of time and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in Vietnam.
“RAK” as he was known, (Robert Alvin Knudson), was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at a family cabin near Helena. He was an amazing athlete who was a junior champion bowler, a star basketball player in high school, a champion baseball player in the Helena Sports Hall of Fame, and a champion Helena golfer. For many years, Bob was an avid Miami Dolphins fan.
Professionally, Bob was a firefighter, Fire Prevention Officer, and Fire Marshall during his 26-year career with the Helena Fire Department. Following his retirement from the City, he used his knowledge and experience to establish Flamesafe of the Rockies.
Bob led a life of adventure making countless friends along the way. He had a quick wit and a sparkle in his eyes that spoke to his “mischievous” nature.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly Hoffman Walters, the love of his life whom he married in 2017. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Nyree (Derk) Schmidt, Nate (Alicia) Walters, and Nick (Hannah Bulovsky) Walters, and five grandchildren. His sister, Joan Knudson Weed, also survives him. Bob’s “other love” was his Boston Terrier named Tessie.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents Dorine and Ada Knudson of Helena, both maternal and paternal grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Lung Association in memory of Bob.
