In Memory Of

Robert “Bob” Lewis de Montigny age 62 of Helena

September 26, 1953 – December 25, 2015

Robert Lewis deMontigny was born September 26th, 1953, into the family of Tony and Peggy deMontigny who had already blessed him with his big sister Cheryl (Bob), and then followed with a little sister, Jean (Roger), and brothers, Tony Ray, Marcien (Dolie), David (Cindy), and Rodney (Marilyn). He grew up in a large loving family with many aunts and uncles, dear cousins, and friends who just felt like family.  He graduated CMR High School in 1971, served a short time in the military and then joined the union.  In 1976 and 1977 he met and married C. Renee Fayler gaining in-laws of mother, Ruth Fayler, sisters, Shelley (Bob) and Monty (Craig).  Married just shy of 39 years, together they raised a son, Halleck, and daughter, Melissa Finnicum.

Fortunate enough to do a job he loved, he worked of OMO Construction for the better part of 20 years allowing him and his family to live in different parts of Montana, yet always calling Helena home.  In 2005, he retired and took a part time job as a grounds keeper at the local Laborer’s Union Hall, where he and his beloved Abi dog spent many hours.  He took great pride in being called “Brother Bob”, “Uncle Bob”, and even more so in being “Dad.”  The greatest joys in his life were his grandkids, Wyatt Matthew Fitz, Eli Lewis Fitz, Kaylee Renee deMontigny and Halsey Jo deMontigny, of whom he loved without measure.  He was so grateful to have a wonderful son-in-law Scott Finnicum and wonderful daughter-in-law Bobbi Jo.  He had a poet’s soul and laborer’s hands.  His friends were life time friends and the bonds with his family were strong. His philosophy of “Love of Life” was lived to the fullest.  He was very God indwelled.  Bob had a big heart. Bob chose a special day to leave us and passed away with the rare full moon on Christmas night.  He is preceded in death by his father, dear mother, step father, Keith Lappe, and his father-in-law, Halleck B. Fayler.

A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave., Helena. A reception will immediately follow the memorial service in the social hall of the funeral home.  A graveside service will follow the reception at the Craig Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Bob’s name to Craig Cemetery, Attn:  Craig Cemetery Association, 1545 Williamsberg Road, Helena MT 59601.

My heart is saddened by your loss. When I was “on the road”, I often ran into Bob setting or picking up signs. We’d spend a few minutes chatting, and I always left with Bob’s big smile and laugh in my thoughts. He will be missed by many even those who never had a chance to meet him.
